Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Obedience, Frontline Filming

As Cheng Zhan and others urged them on, Chen Yanyan, following Lin Feng's orders, reversed the Lv13 armed camper out from under the tarp. In the parking lot, the reluctant beauty stepped out of her luxury camper and into a filming van.

Under Lin Feng's stern warning and a bit of intimidation, Jiang Yuner unwillingly left the safety of the service area. She feared for her life on the frontlines.

Of course, this fear is common among those unfamiliar with the frontlines. Anyone experienced in warfare understands that killing a single Black Spinal Bug isn't difficult with heavy firepower; it only takes seconds.

However, Black Spinal Bugs never act alone. Even a scout team consists of at least three bugs, and during peaceful development, they patrol the territory in swarms.

To kill one means facing relentless pursuit from others. As time drags on, more bugs join the chase, possibly with aerial assaults from Green Wing Bugs.

That's where the real danger lies. The more people, the more bugs you attract. Even the military struggles to capture live bugs.

Otherwise, Hu Fei would have partnered with the military directly, instead of flattering the unheralded newbie awakener Lin Feng.

Lin Feng's individual combat power is immense, and he's not bound by military restrictions.

The military has a few super bullet awakeners, but they're too valuable to risk on bug captures—they're pivotal in small-scale battles.

Their abilities are crucial for bunker defense engagements.

Naturally, the military also covets Lin Feng.

However, having joined the state guard early, the Thirteenth Army can't openly recruit him.

Though they can't overtly poach him, they won't waste such talent.

Thus, they established a standalone bastion at the highway service area, serving as a forward base to draw insect fire from main operations.

Now, Jiang Yuner's stunt event serves as cover for a probe into the insect lair. Survival, not bug kills, is the priority.

With Lin Feng's help, the star's bug-killing awakening could be easily achieved—if he chose to assist.

On the drive following the military jeeps, Chen Yanyan asked:

"Major Cheng said we just need to bring Jiang Yuner back. Should we have her ride with us for a quicker escape?"

Lin Feng glanced at the filming van in the mirror, then at the military jeep ahead, and smirked:

"Of course."

"If Jiang Yuner dies before us, we'll be scapegoats to appease her backers."

"Though unlikely, the Thirteenth Army might leverage it to coerce us into their ranks for the defense battle."

"But we can't make it too easy for the star to complete her task. We need some twists, along with the truth I've told her, so she'll follow our lead and promote us."

"We need our own channels; otherwise, even if we win a war against the insects, no one will know."

"This is the real reason to approach Jiang Yuner."

"Through her, we'll tell the world's survivors that humanity can defeat the insects, and I'm the great savior."

"Only then can we make a name for ourselves, declaring our existence as hope."

Chen Yanyan nodded, impressed by Lin Feng's foresight. She had assumed he was only attracted to Jiang Yuner's beauty, unaware of his deeper motives.

She teased:

"Make sure to keep her well-fed. The best way to conquer a woman is to fill all her emptiness."

Lin Feng coughed awkwardly, giving her a sidelong glance.

Soon, with the urging of the military vehicles, their convoy of armed camper and three vans reached the suburban frontline.

This was Wu City's outskirts, the edge of insect territory. The vast suburbs of Haicheng were now overrun by insects.

Checking landmarks and mileage, Lin Feng noted that overnight, the insects had expanded over three kilometers inland.

At this rate, in less than ten days, they'd reach Wu City's outskirts. By the seventh day, bunker troops could spot Red Beetle activity through high-powered binoculars.

Time was pressing.

Lin Feng observed the mounds along the highway, seeing Red Beetles scurry into tunnels at the sound of vehicles.

They were becoming smarter, fleeing when faced with crowds, unlike their initial landfall in Haicheng, where they attacked on sight.

As the convoy halted, soldiers disembarked from the lead jeep, instructing everyone to prepare.

Positioned at the edge of insect expansion, the area was safe for filming as long as there were no disturbances.

Lin Feng instructed Chen Yanyan to stay in the vehicle, covertly controlling the camper's weapons. He donned his Crimson Armor, gripping the Lv17 grenade launcher, and stepped out.

Cheng Zhan approached, curious about the armed camper's unique design—a blend of biology and mechanics—with its intimidating gun ports.

Compared to the camper, Lin Feng's armor was less eye-catching.

"This vehicle is solid, more so than our jeeps, but its firepower is lacking compared to a tank."

"Machine guns barely harm Black Spinal Bugs. If this mission succeeds, I'll get two large-caliber mortars for your rooftop."

Lin Feng nodded appreciatively:

"Thanks, Cheng. Best of luck on the mission!"

Though equipped with three autocannons, you can never have too much heavy firepower.

They exchanged a few words. Meanwhile, the filming team escorted Jiang Yuner over.

The star had changed into military attire, her hair tied in a neat ponytail. Her camo vest clung to her, accentuating her curves.

Her fair, beautiful face was intentionally dirtied, with camo streaks on her cheeks, giving her a fierce, determined look.

Her ample chest bounced as she moved, and Lin Feng, taller than most, caught glimpses of her cleavage.

The promotional video aimed to recruit young men, using enticing tactics was necessary.

Soldiers handed Jiang Yuner a grenade-launching rifle, explaining its use.

Behind her, the filming crew followed with professional cameras, their setup including a tripod mic and lighting boards, looking very professional.

But this was the frontline.

Lin Feng silently prayed for them. Those tools wouldn't help outrun bugs.

Watching Jiang Yuner, guided by soldiers, cross the emergency lane to a dirt mound in the woods:

"The Red Beetles are inside."

"Miss Jiang, you've strengthened seven times, so you need to kill seventeen Red Beetles to reach nine enhancements. Then one Black Spinal Bug to complete today's task."

"Of course, you can just kill Red Beetles and return safely."

Lin Feng sat on the guardrail, listening to the soldier's briefing. They were giving Jiang Yuner a chance, but her goal was a complete, safe awakening.

Seeing the star glance back at him, Lin Feng subtly nodded, reassuring her.

She informed the soldier she was ready.

The soldier retrieved chickens from the trunk, slitting their throats and tossing them near the bug hole. As blood sprayed and chickens squawked...

Antennae poked from the entrance.

The crew swallowed hard, instinctively stepping back.
