Harry sat in the Gryffindor common room with Ginny as they worked on their homework together, most of the other Gryffindors were currently asleep.
"Alright well I am done." Ginny said as she packed her stuff away. "What about you?" She asked Harry.
"I have only got a few minutes left," Harry said as he continued writing. "I would recommend going to sleep if you are still planning to practise flying tomorrow."
"Probably best," Ginny yawned. "do you know that Angelia and the rest said that they would help train me and the other chasers?"
"She did mention it," Harry nodded. "by the way how are you at seeker?"
"I think I am pretty decent, I mean I am not like you or Charlie but I am alright at it, why?"
"There is no reserve seeker so if you think you are fairly decent at it then maybe we can talk to Angelina about making you or one of the other chasers a reserve."
"Hmm, I'll think about it." Ginny said as she stood up. "Good night Harry." She said as she walked off and up to the fourth year girl room.
"See ya Gin." Harry called out as he continued working, several minutes later he had finished and leaned back and relaxed in his seat.
"Harry." A voice called, breaking him out of his enjoyable relaxation. He looked up to see Ron and Hermione standing in front of him.
"Can I help you?" Harry raised an eyebrow.
"Yes," Hermione nodded. "we…" She was cut off as Ron snorted, she glared at him only for him to glare back. "fine, I wanted to talk to you about something."
"Oh and what would that be?" Harry asked, wondering why she was talking to him now. She had been ignoring him so far and he was more than fine to continue with doing so.
"It's about Umbridge." Hermione said. "We are not learning how to defend ourselves, we are not learning how to pass our owls. She is taking over the entire school."
"Not the entire school, I am positive that Filch is going strong." Harry joked.
"Harry this is not the time for jokes."
"Especially not ones that bad." Ron added.
"Look, what exactly do you want me to do about Umbridge?" Harry asked as he rolled his eyes.
"No matter what you might say Harry you know that Voldemort is back, you saw him in your first and second year." Hermione argued. "I don't know why you aren't telling anyone."
"Because if Dumbledore wanted people to be told then he would have told them long before now." Harry replied. "Now what does this have to do with the pink toad?"
"Harry, we need to learn how to defend ourselves." Hermione said.
"Well go on then." Harry shrugged.
"We need someone to teach us."
"Well go on then." Harry repeated. "Professor Flitwick and McGonagall are the best in charms and transfigurations plus Professor Flitwick used to be a former duelling champion, go and ask them."
"We can't." Ron said. "If Umbridge found out that we were asking other teachers then she would put a stop to it."
"I guess it is pretty much hopeless for you then." Harry said in a sympathetic voice while he mentally groaned as he realised where this was going.
"Harry, I was hoping that you would teach us and some of the other students." Hermione said.
"And why in the name of Merlin's left testicle do you want me of all people to teach?" Harry sighed. Hermione frowned at the image he put in her head but pushed on.
"Harry you are the best in defence, you have fought Voldemort and basilisks and dementors, you can do a patronus charm! That's 'newt' level magic! Plus you won the tri-wizard tournament and you fought that dark wizard Apophis, Ron told me about watching the memory of it." Hermione said, she was rather upset that she didn't get to watch the memory but decided that now was not the best time to mention it. "You have the experience, skill and knowledge Harry. I think you could do a lot of good helping the students."
"Yes but you seem to have forgotten one crucial thing Miss Granger, desire, and simply put I have no desire to start teaching." Harry replied.
"But you could help so many people!" Hermione protested.
"Indeed I could." Harry nodded. "But then again I have been doing that all my life. I mean help the Dursley's and get abused, save the school in first year and get the Dursley's in return plus hatred the next year, save the school in second year and in return I get people to realise that I am not a mass murdering heir of Slytherin, it seems to me that whenever I help people it is me who suffers for it. Yes that might sound childish or whiny or whatever but quite frankly I am far out of shits to give about people that turn on me in a moments notice. Besides let's say that I do teach people, that will just bring Umbridge's ire on me. Why would I do that?"
"But… you… you really wouldn't help?!" Hermione said as she and Ron looked at him with disbelief.
"I have very few people that I care about in this school, I have no problem helping them but I am not about to start a 'club' or… whatever the hell you are suggesting and start teaching everyone."
"I can't believe it!" Hermione said as she glared at him. "First you cost me my arm and now you are refusing to help and…"
"Oh honey," Harry shook his head and tutted his teeth while also wondering if he sounded cool or funny when he said 'oh honey'. "I did not cost you your arm. You know damn well why you lost the ability to use that arm and you know damn well that it was because you did not listen to me. Which brings me to another reason for not helping, people like you two."
"What is that supposed to mean?!" Ron demanded as he joined Hermione in glaring at him.
"Oh I am sorry, is it not obvious?" Harry asked while raising an eyebrow, he turned to Hermione. "First of all I don't see much point in going to this thing when you and the people I teach are unable to listen to simple instructions such as 'don't mess with what isn't yours' or 'you can not read this'." Harry turned to Ron. "As for you, when I became an animagus Kingsley had went through the effort of discreetly registering me only for you to cock it up and let the whole school know."
"Like you cared," Ron scoffed. "you've been showing off about the fact that you can turn into a tiger for ages."
"Yeah Ron but that was me simply me making the best of my situation I found myself in. if it wasn't for you then I could have kept it a secret trick in case I am ever attacked. But I decided that if people knew then I might as well enjoy it." Harry said as he stood up. "I am not about to start an illegal group only for you to blurt it out and get me in trouble. You two go and do whatever the fuck you want, but me, I am going to simply enjoy my year as best as I can and that's it." Harry said right before he picked his stuff up, he was about to walk off when Ron spoke again.
"You coward!" Ron snarled. "You don't deserve to be in the house of the lions!"
"Well I am a tiger so I am debatably better than a lion." Harry shrugged. "I am what I am, I am not about to change just to keep you happy."
"I don't care what you say! You are…"
"Ron," Harry interrupted. "must we really do this? I mean you know you're no match for me, I mean you've seen the memory of me fighting that Apophis guy in that memory, I am smarter than you and I am better than you, I don't really know what you hope to achieve." Ron growled after his face turned red with anger, he threw a punch at Harry, hoping to knock out a few of his teeth. Unfortunately for him Harry saw the punch coming a mile away, Harry jumped back to avoid it before he struck Ron with a right hook to the face. Ron stumbled back far enough for Harry to whip his wand out and hit him with a body bind. "No." Harry said when Hermione looked like she was about to move. "I'd recommend you stay still Granger unless you want to be next." Harry raised his wand in the air and sent a loud alarm sound from it. He kept it going until many Gryffindors came down to see what was happening.
"Harry? What the hell is going on?" Dean Thomas asked. "What was that noise?" He and the other Gryffindors did not look happy at being disturbed and woken up.
"I do apologise but I needed some prefects as Weasley over here thought it was a good idea to throw a punch." Harry said. "Somebody might want to go get McGonagall." Harry suggested.
"I'll do it." Katie said before she walked out to go get McGonagall.
"He tried to attack you?!" Fred and George asked at the same time with disbelief, they knew that Ron was not the fastest learner but they were pretty sure that he had been paying attention when they watched the memory of Harry fighting Apophis so they could not quite understand what caused him to try and punch Harry of all people.
"Let me go Potter!" Ron said as he tried to move but the body bind was too strong for him.
"Let me think… no." Harry replied before he put him under a silencing charm. "How the hell are you three related to him?" Harry asked Ginny and the twins.
"Tell me what happened." McGonagall frowned.
"Ron was being an idiot." Harry replied with a small shrug which did not seem to help improve McGonagall's mood. He could tell she was not exactly happy, though he was not sure what bothered her the most. The fact that Gryffindors had been fighting and she had been called to deal with it or the fact that Umbridge had discovered that something had happened and insisted on coming with her to deal with this, that is why Harry, Ron and Hermione found themselves in McGonagall's office with Umbridge and McGonagall.
"Mr Potter that is not helpful." McGonagall said as she glared at him.
"It seems to me that it is the Weasley boy who is at fault." Umbridge said.
"Dolores please, I can deal with this on my own." McGonagall said in a tired voice.
"I would not mind if she stayed." Harry said, shocking everyone in the room including himself, he suddenly felt very dirty and like he needed a shower. "I mean to be honest Professor I was rather worried about bringing this matter to you, especially after all the times in the past when you have ignored me, quite frankly if you weren't Gryffindor head of house then I would have gone to someone else."
"Harry!" Hermione gasped as McGonagall looked at him with a dropped jaw.
"Oh I am sorry, I did not know that personal or differing opinions were a punishable offence."
"They are not," Umbridge said, either uncaring or forgetful of the fact that she was here to punish those with an opinion different to the Ministers. "what happened Mr Potter?"
"These two came into the room and demanded that I start up a group to teach people how to fight and got angry when I refused." Harry answered.
"That's a lie!" Ron shouted.
"Why would they want you to start such a group?" Umbridge asked while narrowing her eyes at Ron and Hermione.
"Something about Voldemort," Harry said dismissively while also doing his best to not roll his eyes at the way everyone in the room flinched. "anyway, then the jolly red over there calls me a 'coward' for refusing and I simply pointed out that I don't really know why he is doing this as it is obvious that I would kick his butt in a magical fight. He threw a punch, I dodged and hit him with my own punch before calling the rest of Gryffindor house down so somebody could go and get help."
"You did not have to respond with a punch." McGonagall said, she was about to continue when Harry interrupted.
"See?" Harry said to Umbridge as he gestured to McGonagall. "I defend myself and I am the one who gets told off.
"Hmm, Mr Potter thank you, you can go." Umbridge said. "I will personally handle this."
"You cannot do this," McGonagall said to Umbridge. "I am their head of house and…"
"Actually I can," Umbridge cut her off with a sweet smile. "as I am 'High Inquisitor' I am able to overrule any and all punishments. Mr Potter you may go, I will handle this.
"Sweet." Harry said before he stood up and gladly left the room.
