Chapter 19: The Sudden Accident!
"Torajirou-san, which Familia do you belong to?" Ryuu asked Shiro a question.
"Loki Familia."
There was no need for Shiro to lie about this, as anyone could simply ask the guild and find out about their affiliated Familia.
"Is that so... That explains it."
For some reason, Ryuu felt even more convinced by Shiro's previous words upon hearing he was from Loki Familia, as if, in her eyes, members of Loki Familia were all brash individuals.
To prevent Ryuu from asking more questions, Shiro quickly finished his fried noodles, paid 2000 valis, and said goodbye.
What surprised him was that not only Ryuu but also a girl named Syr waved back at him.
However, he did not vainly think that the gray-haired waitress was interested in him; he simply thought she had that kind of friendly personality.
…
The next day,
Shiro got up in the morning and trained in swordsmanship with Ais before heading straight to the dungeon.
Lefiya planned to visit the Goibniu Familia, famous for their forging skills, to have a suitable sword crafted for herself since she knew Ais's "Desperate" was maintained there as well.
As Shiro passed by the Hostess of Fertility, he was spotted by Ryuu and Syr, who were preparing ingredients inside.
Syr saw Ryuu staring thoughtfully at his back.
"What's wrong? Ryuu, are you worried about him?"
Ryuu snapped back to reality.
"Uhh, he told us yesterday that he was going to explore the dungeon with a senior, so..."
"So you're worried he went down there by himself?"
"Well, many rookie adventurers die like that, thinking they are strong but end up showing their vulnerable side and getting buried in the dungeon."
Ryuu then picked up the ingredients she had set on the ground.
"Forget it, it's none of my business."
Syr seemed to see through her thoughts at this time.
"Just go after him, I'll ask for leave from Mama Mia on your behalf."
"Eh?"
"Because that's how Ryuu is, she really cares about her friends and always steps forward to stop others from bullying them."
"Thanks, Syr."
After hesitating for a while, Ryuu finally put down the ingredients and rushed in the direction Shiro had left.
After all, she couldn't put aside her worries.
…
In the dungeon,
Ryuu, wearing a green cloak representing elves, a mask on her face, and holding a wooden sword, sped through the dungeon.
"Not here?"
By now, Ryuu had already searched most areas of the dungeon from the 1st to the 6th floor, covering all the routes a newcomer might take, but she still had not found the boy.
"Didn't I tell him not to take risks? What a fool."
Muttering softly, Ryuu continued to head deeper into the dungeon, while Shiro had already arrived at the 10th floor.
"Take my sword!"
Shiro threw his sword at a flying creature named Bad Bat, injuring it before withdrawing his sword in satisfaction.
When this kind of flying monster appeared before, Shiro could only jump up and try to slash it.
In mid-air, when he encountered monsters that could attack from a distance, he would become an easy target.
But since fighting with Ais yesterday, he had the idea of throwing his sword, and now he was testing whether he could use it in battle.
The only downside was that he had no weapon in his hand after throwing the sword, but since the Device could be called back at any time, it wasn't a big problem.
When there was nothing else nearby that could be used to throw at enemies, his Device seemed like a good choice.
Just as Shiro had defeated another monster, a group of Imps swarmed up and launched a sneak attack on him from behind, who was unarmed at the time.
Just as Shiro was about to resummon his Device to strike back.
"Idiot!"
Ryuu's voice rang in his ears, and he was suddenly pulled behind.
Then…
Bang—!
Ryuu's sword, despite being made of wood, struck the monster with unparalleled force, exploding the monster upon impact.
While being protected by the green-haired elf, Shiro did not have the time to admire the heroic and powerful figure of this valkyrie-like woman.
He was initially surprised why she was here.
He first thought of Ryuu's warning to him yesterday at noon, then recalled her angry expression, and finally glanced at the monsters that were blown apart, swallowing his saliva quietly.
Gulp, it's over—
Shiro was rapidly thinking about how to survive under the hands of this obviously angry elf while greeting her.
"Yo... good... morning, I guess?"
"Why is it a question?"
Ryuu placed the wooden sword at her waist, where a very refined katana was also sheathed.
"Why did you come to the 10th floor?"
"Ah... this... for leveling up I guess?"
"Why is it a question again?"
"For leveling up!!"
"Shouting doesn't help! Idiot!"
After saying that, Ryuu turned and walked away.
"Follow me, I'll take you back to the upper floors, and next time, even if you're desperate, don't throw away your weapon."
Shiro roughly understood that she came to the dungeon because she was worried about him, especially after seeing him surrounded by monsters and throwing his weapon away.
Shiro looked at Ryuu's back and followed her.
"Um, Ryuu-san."
"Save your apologies for when we get back."
Great, she seems really angry.
"Actually, I wasn't throwing away my weapon; I was experimenting with my magic."
Before things got worse, Shiro felt it necessary to explain to Ryuu that he was not courting death but indeed leveling up.
Ryuu paused her steps, turned back, and stared at Shiro as if to say 'if you don't give me a reasonable explanation, the wooden sword at my waist will hit your head next second'.
Shiro had no choice but to explain his magic to Ryuu, even killing a newly spawned group of Bad Bats in front of her, which finally convinced Ryuu of his words.
"Do you want to join me, Ryuu-san?"
Seeing Ryuu's mood had calmed down, Shiro tried to invite her, as he could see from Ryuu's actions that she must be a high-level adventurer, and he could also follow her to the middle floors.
"No, I'm no longer an adventurer."
Again, that annoyingly cryptic tone.
This habit of speaking in riddles, always carrying a tragic past but bottling it up alone, was making Shiro frustrated, wanting to say something but not knowing how to express it, leading him to irritably scratch his head.
Seriously, couldn't she stop speaking in riddles all the time?
He was just about to speak when an accident occurred.
"Ah—!!!"
Suddenly, a scream echoed through the dungeon, and Shiro and Ryuu looked at each other before running towards the source of the scream.
What they saw was a swarm of killer ants, insectoid monsters, surrounding something.
They had six legs, and their raised hands had four hook-like claws, calling for comrades when in danger.
Shiro and Ryuu charged into the swarm of killer ants; if Shiro relied on his sword skills and magic to find opportunities to attack, Ryuu relied purely on her speed and unmatched attack power.
Bang—!!
Each time Ryuu passed by a swarm of killer ants, a loud bang followed, and then one could see a killer ant explode by her wooden sword, the shockwave flipping the nearby ants into the air.
Seeming to feel that this speed was not fast enough, Ryuu began to chant a spell.
"—In the sky of a now distant forest. Infinite stars scattered in the endless night sky. Respond to my foolish voice, give me now divine protection of starfire. Give the mercy of light to the one that abandoned you—"
The sky suddenly filled with countless light bullets, their falling radiance making Ryuu shine brighter.
The chanting continued.
"—Come, wandering wind, the wandering traveler. Cross the sky and run through the wilderness, run faster than anything else. Imbue the light of stardust and destroy the enemy."
As Ryuu finished chanting, the starlight-filled magic bullets showed their cruel side to the enemies.
Countless bullets exploded upon entering the enemy ranks, loud explosions ringing in the ears, as the light engulfed the vision, bodies were torn apart, and magic stones turned to dust.
What remained were only remnants on the ground.
