"Mother," Samuel knocked on the door of his parent's bedroom. He was hoping to find his mother while his father was distracted. Samuel believed there was something being left out from what his father told him. "Mother," he knocked again then waited for a response. "What room could she have been in?"
Samuel feared something bad could have happened to her. Regardless of how much pressure she placed on him, she was still his mother. Samuel loved his mother more than he loved his father. He did not care about what happened to Minnie but he had a feeling, his mother might be in the same place as his grandmother.
"We've all turned our backs on one another. He might have killed her," Samuel began to panic. He didn't have time to search all the rooms and he could not ask a servant about his mother's whereabouts in case they alerted his father. "I can't get on his bad side. I don't know what he'll do to me."
