The Worldly Vestige

A Day In The Fated Future

House of the Crowleys

(Dazai Crowley's POV)

After using my own words against me, it was clear that Blair had no interest in continuing on with this conversation and neither did I, despite my curiosity.

Thanks to her, I had gotten a little sidetracked and stopped looking around my surroundings for a couple of minutes. But now that we were back on track, I could return to my usual explorations.

To be honest, there wasn't much to see or do in here any more. Besides the superficial memories and a small trip down memory lane, we already saw what this place had to offer.

Back in those days, I didn't really have much of a connection to my parent's room, of all places, so it wasn't too surprising to see that it had the least impact compared to mine or Alice's room.

Regardless, it was still nice to see it again.

But before I finally decided it was time to leave, I felt something odd nearby. I couldn't really explain why, but for some reason, it came off as magnetic in a way, as if it was trying to draw me closer towards it.

While it wasn't physically pulling me elsewhere, I felt rather inclined to look for the source of that said energy. Blair on the other hand didn't seem to have noticed it, so it was probably only affecting me.

As if somewhat hypnotized by the effects, I waltzed towards my parents' walk-in closet to look around.

From the looks of it, the closet was divided into sections. One half housed my mother's clothes with another belonging to my father's. There also seemed to be a giant vertical mirror fixture and even a couple of coat racks standing nearby.

On one of those racks in particular lay only a certain piece of cloth which was wrapped around the neck and shoulders of some half cut humanoid stand.

It was some sort of long yet rather thin shemagh scarf that was metallic grey in color. At first glance, it's appearance really wasn't all that striking compared to the other casual clothing in this room.

But for some reason, similar to Alice's gun and the pendant I got from my childhood, it happened to be doused with an extra thin layer of magical light, as if trying to emphasize its importance as some sort of holy relic. Although it seemed all that special to me at first, this eerie yet familiar vibes it gave off was something I could not mistake.

I may not know why, but this scarf seems to mean alot to me. Hell, I dare say, even more than the pendant itself, and that alone is saying a lot.

Judging from the looks of things, this item probably had some connection to my father considering it appeared some time after I reminisced with Blair.

"Hmm…..Appraisal." I said aloud as I outstretched my hand towards the scarf.

After my magic scanned it for a second, it eventually began detecting the several skills enchanted inside.

Just like I thought….

Alright, let's see what we're dealing with.

Extreme Weather Resistance EX; "When equipped, this magical item provides the wearer great resistance to harsh weather and outside elements such as, but not limited to, sandstorms, hail storms and thunderstorms. In colder climates, this tool will retain most of the user's temperature and keep the wielder relatively warm. In hotter climates, it will repel a portion of sunlight and will periodically provide a cooling effect to the user."

Elemental Protective Charm A+; Thanks to the magical properties and stiff fibers woven inside, this tool can provide the user resistance against elemental forces, shielding the wearer and minimizing magical damage to a certain degree. However, this skill cannot outright negate damage completely unless the attack is truly inferior to this skill's capabilities. As such, it is recommended the wielder continues to proceed with caution."

Flexible Durability; "Due to the material used to craft this item, this tool is highly durable yet flexible in nature, allowing it to tolerate damage to a much higher extent without being completely destroyed. However, it is not completely impervious and can still be damaged or worn out. It is also weak against forces designed to destroy physical matter on a molecular level. As such, it is highly important for the wielder to continue treating this item with care."

Zephyr's Charm of Swiftness; "Because this item was woven with the essence of a Great Eagle Zephyr, this magical tool can provide the user a small increase in movement speed when equipped. It also gives the wielder access to a magic spell called "Swift Wing Zephyr" which may double, triple, or quadruple the user's base speed. This spell can also stack with other speed based multipliers. However, the latter spell has a cool down time which grows longer in accordance to the amount of power used."

To be honest, these are all pretty good skills if I say so myself. From the looks of it, this scarf is more so designed to be used more so for defensive support like the pendant from before. Not to mention, "Swift Wing Zephyr" is practically an on demand increase of agility, making it rather useful in a pinch.

But surprisingly enough, the abilities didn't stop there when I laid my eyes upon the last three skills.

And by god, when I read what they were capable of and understood its true potential, I immediately realized just how dangerous they were.

The Worldly Vestige; "This tool is enchanted with a support classed pseudo Boundary. Whenever objects, either physical or magical enters the area of effect, it will immediately have its kinetic energy absorbed at planck time speeds. For example, when projectiles such as arrows or bullets enter the wielder's vicinity, its velocity will be cut in half again and again until finally there is no energy left, essentially nullifying any deadly forces related or caused by movement instantaneously. These effects cannot be negated but can be bypassed through other specific means. It also provides the user access to the spells "Memento" and "Memento - Distant Memories". See more for details."

Worldly Vestige, huh. Sounds familiar…It probably was some old ability my dad liked to use back in the day. Well, in any case, after reading the example it provided, I realized that it was actually pretty compatible with the "Divine Protection From Arrows" blessing that my pendant gave me.

Since it increases my "luck" against projectiles, it should work hand in hand with the Boundary, and increase its overall success. Not to mention, the added immunity to negation was good insurance.

But I wonder what exactly could bypass the effects?

Attacks that ignore distance? I may not know a lot, but there should definitely be plenty of spells that can do that….Hmm, well until I find out what exactly it is, it looks like I'll still need to tread lightly.

Memento; "Thanks to the shock-absorbing fibers woven within, this magical tool can store all kinetic energy that has been absorbed. This skill works in tandem with "The Worldly Vestige". There are certain limits as to how much kinetic energy it can absorb, so the wielder must take caution. By saying the name "Memento", the wielder will be able to channel all of the energy accumulated into a single attack which connects to the target through tactile means of contact. This skill's attack power scales in accordance to the amount of energy accumulated."

Memento - Distant Memories; "This skill works on the same principles as "Memento", however the user may be able to project the kinetic energy through long ranged blasts. The user can also augment the range as they wish, however this will reduce the explosive spread and can lose a majority of its lethality when shot from too far away. As such, it is only recommended to stun targets at long distance."

From the looks of it, while Memento seems to shine the most when used in close quarters combat, Distant Memories still provides me the extra option of converting it into a long ranged attack.

Course that would mean sacrificing a portion of its base strength in the process, the added utility is what's truly important.

Seeing such power simply standing right in front of me was enough to make me reach out to it and begin unraveling off the clothestand.

A little afterwards, using the help of the nearby mirror, I swung the scarf around my neck in a similar fashion to how it was hung before.

After making a couple more final adjustments again, I looked in the mirror to see how I looked.

Besides it being a little on the long side, I actually liked it. Now I wouldn't go as far to say I looked more handsome, but fashion wise, I did feel a little cooler. For some reason, I even felt a lot safer and became more confident in myself.

But that could just be me feeling stronger from the power embedded within….

Well, in any case, after getting myself situated, I finally walked back out to meet with Blair.

"Oh?~ What's that?" She asked me curiously.

"It's my father's scarf. He used to wear it alot back in the day. I think it's because my mother knitted it together for him or something, I don't know. In any case, I thought about wearing it for myself and see how it looked on me. What do you think?"

"You look really hot right now~...." She mumbled aloud while covering her nose for some reason.

Is she seriously having a nosebleed right now...

"It's just a damn scarf….."

"So?~ Anything you wear would probably look good on you~....I wonder how you would look in female clothing?~....." She asked mischievously.

"If you have any more of those types of thoughts, I'll beat your ass, I swear."

"Oh, please do!~..." She naughtily replied with intense bright red heart eyes.

"Tch, I forgot I can't because I would just be giving you exactly what you want." I said while putting down my fist.

"Hehe~" Her joyful chuckles could not get any more annoying now could they…..

But just when I thought she bested me in witty banter yet again, suddenly a small noise echoed throughout the room….

*Grrummmble…..*

The moment we both heard it, Blair immediately stopped laughing and even froze in place out of tense awkwardness.

"Heh, someone's hungry~....." I teased in return.

"Don't laugh at me!" She whined in a childlike manner.

"I-I just haven't eaten anything since the moment we first woke up here, you know? The only thing that looked remotely appetizing in here was probably your dick~....."

"Yeah, well that's not on the menu, lady." I retorted, without so much as entertaining her delusions.

"Meanie!~...." She replied with puffy cheeks.

I rolled my eyes at her and began walking to the bedroom door.

"Where are you going?" She asked.

I sighed.

"Downstairs. There should be a kitchen in here somewhere. Hopefully, we can find a little something for the two of us."

"Darling's going to cook!?~ Sign me up!~" She shouted enthusiastically.

"Yeah, but no meat for you~...." I teased.

"Huh!?"

Whether or not I was petty enough for a little payback from before, seeing her surprised expression made me chuckle aloud.

In any case, at this rate, I feel like one day, this woman is going to put my chastity in danger.

God, I hope that day never comes…..
