Chapter 17: 17

As if he was thinking otherwise, he shook his head sideways and went to the gathering hall. Elle like a pet followed blindly . Ariel hissed repeatedly. At least, the torture was over for now.

That was a good thing, even though she knew it would be short-lived. She tried to stand up, but her legs had gone soft due to the fear from earlier, so she wobbled and fell back on her butt with a thud.

She groaned with pain, but she knew that the longer she stayed here, the more danger she was in.

Furthermore, she gritted her teeth and, after much effort, pushed herself to stand on her two feet.

Her leg was still shaky, but she pushed on and began walking away.

She had just stepped past the threshold when she was dragged in another direction harshly.

From the whiff of sandalwood coming from the person, she already knew that it was Courtney, the head maid.

"Come with me, bitch! You have been assigned to wash the dishes!" She stated as she continued to pull Ariel towards the kitchen roughly.

Ariel did not make a sound, from when she was being manhandled to when she stood before piles of dishes and began washing.

She found that any form of complaint would be dire, so she does her job as quickly as she can.

Once she was done with the plates and was about to leave, she was informed that she would be serving the guests at the gathering Alpha Damien was holding.

She protested as she feared another encounter with Damien, but she was slapped into submission. With a red cheek, she proceeded to the gathering hall. When she got to the door, she could hear laughter and merriment. That made her stop and rethink her decision to accept this job.

No! Even if I'm beaten, it would be better than taking this job! She thought.

She turned to leave, but a voice stopped her.

"Ariel! Come here right now."

It seemed Damien had noticed her, and he wasn't about to let her go without tormenting her.

"Can today get any worse?" Ariel questioned under her breath.

Ariel, who had collapsed to the floor, was now crying and shaking with fear. And to respond to everyone's curiosity, Damien turned back to face her after a few steps away from her before he started to speak.

"You don't deserve to die so easily. You should be humiliated more for your sins and that of your fathers, and until after that will, I give to you the mercy of a quick death by my sword."? Damien loudly called out to her before settling down on the Alpha's chair positioned at the head of the dining table.

It felt like a cold bucket of water had been poured over Ariel's head, as her name left Damien's lips, she didn't expect him to sense her, but who was she kidding? He was an Alpha that had conquered a lot. He would be able to sense her from afar—he always had his guard up at all times, as everyone, including him, knew the number of enemies he had acquired.

Ariel had a mental debate on whether she should leave, or go answer him. She would rather not face either of them, especially Elle, not after what she did to her.

"I know you are there, Ariel. Don't make me come there myself!" Damien threatened, his voice cold and hard.

Ariel's heart leaped into her stomach, her heart skipping a few beats out of fear. She felt dizzy, as her heart raced at Damien's cold threat, he never gave empty threats.

She mustered all the courage she could use, but she couldn't just bring her feet to move, as fear gripped her to the core. It felt like her whole system had locked down.

She bit her lips, patting her racing heart. She felt nauseous, staring at the entrance of the dinner hall. Letting out a giant sigh, Ariel walked into the dinner hall with her hands behind her back.

Ariel walked up to where Damien was seated with Elle on his lap. Her smile slowly turned into a frown the moment she saw Ariel walking in. Noticing that, Ariel gave them a good distance, in case she had to run.

"What were you doing? Hiding at the entrance of the dinner hall?" Damien asked, with hate visible in his eyes.

"Alpha, pardon me. I came to serve the meal," she said softly, staring at her feet.

"Well, Elle served me well, as your miserable self took too long to come out of hiding!" He said with anger.

"I'm sorry, Alpha," She said meekly, tilting her head to the side.

"Damien, I need to use the bathroom." Elle said sweetly, kissing his lips, she passed Ariel a cold glare, before she left for the bathroom.

Ariel stood straight, as she stared at Damien munching on his steak. Her stomach growled softly, she was starving and she hadn't had anything for two days. She and her wolf could no longer tolerate the hunger. They hadn't eaten meat for a long time, and were always given salads and vegetarian foods to eat when they felt like it. She was literally living off food stamps.

She gulped in a large amount of spit, as she watched her wolf howl in hunger.

"Ariel?" Damien called, slicing a part of his steak.

"Yes, Alpha?" She answered with a tight smile. She silently hoped he would give her the steak, but all her hopes were crushed the moment the words left his mouth. "I need you to get a document from my room. It has a blue cover, and it's on my table," he said, putting the piece of steak in his mouth.

"Okay, Alpha," she said, as she walked out of the dinner room, feeling disappointed.

She trailed to his room, her face in a deep frown. She just couldn't understand how Damien was able to ignore his mate's mind so well, he was not affected by anything that happened to her.

Furthermore, she finally reached his room. The dim light of the hallway reflected on the dark marron door, which was also designed in the Victorian style.

She turned the doorknob, stepping into his room slowly. His room was really dark, and she couldn't see well. In the dark, she wandered through his room, as she searched around in the dark, running her hands through the walls, trying to find the light switch. She found it and switched it on.

When she did, the sight she saw was breathtaking.

Damien's room was clean and beautiful, his bed a king-size, his room had only two colours, which were black and white, a beautiful combination.

Ariel inhaled his scent deeply, overwhelmed by it. She felt dizzy, her body sizzled with chills running down her spine.

She found the document beside a small cupboard filled with books. Likewise, she walked over to it, trailing her hand on the walls. She stared at the table for some time. It was neatly arranged, and the file Damien had asked her to get, was placed in the middle of the table, just like he said.

She quickly grabbed it, ready to go, but a dreadful feeling washed over her, which had her stopping in her tracks. She looked around the room, her eyes wide, trying to see the danger, but there was nothing. Cold air pricked her skin and she shivered slightly.

Her ear perked, as she heard some shuffling in the room, but she couldn't pinpoint the place the noise came from. Suddenly, the bathroom door opened and Elle stepped out, wiping her hands on her trousers.

She was a bit startled when she saw Ariel, likewise Ariel. She didn't expect her to be in there.

Ariel hugged the file close to her chest, slightly tilting her head.

"Well, what do we have here?" she said, with a sinister tone, taking slow steps towards her.

"Alpha Damien said I should bring this document to him," she said in a whisper.

"Yeah, he did." Elle said, slapping her hard on her cheek. Ariel hit her head on the bed, causing her to black out.
