Chapter 47: Stern talks

chapter 47.

01. Reskeme grunted at the push and grumpily stood in front of the grumpy master mage, the mage looked from Reskeme to Carley and dusty who were nervously waiting behind Reskeme to see what might happen. Kellar pointed for everyone to enter his tent and followed behind them, The mage did some grumbling and some gestures as Reskeme felt channelling and could see a barrier covering the tent. Kellar sighed, He said," I hope your serious because casting that ward hurt a lot to channel." Kellar casually flopped down on his bed exhausted, He said," Alright Reskeme what is it you're hiding? the two soldiers here seem to think you are a monster, what do you say to that.?" Kellar said," If you are a monster trying to infiltrate and pretend to be Reskeme I will kill you right now."

02. Kellar said "sternly Remove your illusions, and remove your helmet, Reskeme did as asked He was shocked when Kellar got excited instead of infuriated. Keller excitedly said," An elemental outcast, Reskeme was confused, his hair and skin were obviously showing but Kellar seemed exited instead of enraged. Kellar smiled brightly, He said," I have heard of the elemental humanoids of the forbidden lands." Kellar excitedly got up and dug through a trunk that was filled with books and clothes. He pulled out a thick book that looked like it could be used as a mace, Kellar placed the book on a table and flipped through pages for a minute or so until he found what he was looking for.

03. A shocked Reskeme decided it was best for him to remain silent and see what happened. Kellar said," We call them the elemental humanoids, I'm sure they wouldn't be happy by our description of them." He excitedly continued, "My master told me of your species and that the outcasts of your kind were probably the only ones I might ever meet." Reskeme asked "outcasts?" Kellar replied," oh you don't know what you are." Reskeme decided to stretch the truth, He said," I was abandoned as a child and taught to disguise myself with an illusion by my new mother until she died."

04. Kellar quickly said," sorry for your loss, To answer your question, Yes the elementals have a cast system and for good reason, If they mix casts the offspring must be sent to a foreign land or they would die from the harsh climate they were being raised." Kellar continued reading a page, He excitedly read," The snow elementals are completely white and appear humanoid, the fire elementals are completely red hair and all their skin is red, he mumbled I really want to meet them the fire elementals could help me advance to grandmaster." Reskeme said," why don't you go and visit them to learn magic," Kellar coughed and said," no one is allowed in their lands without a good reason, any trespassers simply go missing."

05. The king has passed a law punishable by death for anyone foolish enough to piss off the elementals, which involves trespassing. Kellar sighed, He said," I truly don't know if you are a kidnapped child of the elementals or an outcast, My master obtained an introduction into the fire clan by returning an important artifact to them, that was granted to him by our king. He returned as a grandmaster mage," Kellar eyed reskeme like the best gift he had ever been given.

06. Reskeme asked," why couldn't your master teach you what to do?" Kellar sighed dejectedly and said," my master cant, He refuses to speak a word on how to progress past the rank of High master." Kellar said," A rune contract is no joke, and he obviously is bound to secrecy." Kellar smiled happily," You appear to be apart of the snow cast and fire cast if your appearance is anything to judge by. Kellar held up his book to show a humanoid excitedly, the humanoid was completely red with dark claws and od rough black spots covering their body. Their hair was a red so dark it was almost black and the image showed a being completely naked with fire covering its red skin.

07. Kellar flipped through a few more pages showing a humanoid completely white with hair the colour of snow, the being had ice covering most of its body but looked very humanoid. Kellar grumbled as he read the fire elemental description, Fire elementals live in volcanoes or deep in the earth in and around lava. Their connection with fire mana allows them to imbue the magma with mana allowing them to control and be unharmed by the magma. Kellar laughed excitedly making both Reskeme and Carley jump. He said," Only one way we can test if you are a true elemental."

08. Kellar said," channel your fire and have it envelop your arm, if it burns you then my guess is wrong, if it does nothing then you are clearly an elemental." Reskeme was happy, Kellars excited attitude was far from what he expected, This description of an elemental was so close to what his power did that he was momentarily stunned. He removed his armour with some difficulty, Dusty helped him take off his leather chest plate and he took off his soft shirt. He glances at his two teammates who were both weary and a little excited. This was a much better result than he could have hoped for, Reskeme was going to play this as far as he possibly could, Pretending to be an elemental could be fun.

09. Reskeme took in a breath and channelled mana around his arm holding it outstretched, He said," look but don't touch my fire, my doesn't harm me but I can't say the same with anything else. Kellar was smiling as a child Reskeme had never seen someone so happy. Kellar said," That's incredible, your fire doesn't even burn the hair off your arms, it's apart of you. Reskeme decided he might be able to help his new elemental status he said," My flame also heals me." Kellar was even more excited, He said," no wonder your eyes are soo odd, That is definitely a life characteristic, I wonder how you were even born.

10. Reskeme cut of his channelling and watched Kellar who was flipping through his pages frantically, He said," Ahh here it is Life elementals, They are generally green and in most cases, cant be found as they have adapted soo far into nature they almost completely resemble trees, invading their territory by cutting even a single tree or branch is unwise as they have some sort of link to the forest they have linked their mana with. Kellar said," can you heal other people?" Reskeme said," nope they would burst into flame like a torch."

11. Kellar sighed he said," we need to advance your skills as fast as possible, to think we had an elemental on our side the whole time and you were just doing menial scouting around in the forest." Reskeme got excited he said", soo am I allowed to walk around without my illusions," Kellar gave him a stern look," Oh gods no boy, do you realize how rare you are, noble houses and even the king would fight to steal you away from the war effort the second anyone heard about you." Reskeme stared wide-eyed, Kellar grumbled that is if a soldier didn't mistake you for a monster and kill you onsite, Kellar said, "you're lucky these two already trusted you before finding out." Kellar frowned and said," you probably almost died a few times on your own, From now on you will be concealing yourself as normal but I can help with that, we will make you a concealment amulet, For now, I need sleep. Kellar said," go do something productive, I'm sleeping, I hope you have already learned to cast your third layer because tonight you will begin your first real lessons.

12. Kellar menacingly stared at the two soldiers, he glared soo long that they both looked away, Kellar said," if I hear any word of this from anyone I will personally make sure you two become front line combatants, By that, you will stand out in the field with a shield to distract the Darva while I throw spells at them." Both Carley and Dusty could tell the mage was serious by the look on his face, they both had no intention of saying a word as that job was always in high demand for new fillers as it was the highest casualty rate job in the army.

13. Reskeme put on his armour again and cast his two illusions with prompting, He was rudely pushed from the tent and followed behind his squad. He could faintly hear The hushed chatter of both Carley and Dusty. Reskeme was surprised that the two soldiers seemed excited that they had the opportunity to meet an elemental. Reskeme gave them a look which they both completely ignored, they continued on their conversation about the different Races of the continent they knew about. Reskeme decided he would go somewhere else, these two were not helping him think. He walked to a clear area and set up his tent to practice his magic in. His familiar lay on the ground beside him and didn't even give him more than a hiss. The familiars' actions were completely different when no one was around, the demon was getting far too good at acting.

14. Reskeme tried for the 10th time to set up his tent, the stress of the day was getting to him, he kept thinking back on the past few days and all the close calls. He took a few deep breaths and tried to brace the sticks of his tent with some rocks, the damn things fell over yet again. Carley had arrived a few minutes after he started his futile attempts to set up his tent. This had been the most infuriating twenty minutes of Reskemes day, the soldier had just sat on a chair next to his smiling familiar and watched him struggle over and over to prop the stupid pole with a rock. He infuriatingly tried yet again, A crowd was watching and laughed when the tent crumbled to the ground.

15. Reskeme shook his head and tried not to blush too bad at all the laughing, She was sitting next to his familiar and at least 10 other soldiers that were having a good laugh at Reskeme. He must be trying to set up a tent the wrong way. In his defence he had a lot on his mind, Using rocks to prop up the pegs wasn't the worst idea he told himself. Carley finally decided to come to help him. As it turned out, he needed to use the string and pegs to put tension on both sides of the tent to keep it up. Carley didn't even have the grace to be embarrassed by her antics and walked away happily whistling a tune. Now that the tent was set up Reskeme carried his sleeping roll inside and sat in his small tent out of sight of the now uninterested guards. Reskeme decided he should learn how to properly channel his third layer of mana, as Kellar had said this was necessary for the next lessons.
