Chapter 15: Delivery

Chapter 15.

Reskeme was on his way for his first message delivery to the merchants' quarter. He held up the scroll examining it, he wondered what kind of information he could learn from this letter. Deciding he would rather just get this short delivery over with as he was hungry Reskeme walked with a quick pace down the road. As it turns out all you need to do is put on some new clothes and clean up and everyone gives you some respect. Reskeme passed many people on his way and most gave him a nod or even a wave.

For some reason Getting glares and death stares for So many years had made him think that is all he would ever get. Reskeme was beginning to like this uniform as it was surely the reason. Reskeme had to move at a brisk pace as he would need to channel his next illusions in 15 minutes and getting caught in the street looking like a demon was a sure death sentence. Reskeme was panting when he arrived at the merchants' quarter before searching all of the shops for the one that matched the description.

Reskeme had to ask a merchant that helpfully pointed to the giant building at the end of the block. To the boy's surprise, the man was jovial and even helpful to the new messenger. Reskeme headed down the street his newfound acceptants were making him have a spring to his step. The boy arrived in front of the doors. There were two guards in front of the building, This almost made him turn back as guards were always bad news.

Reskeme nervously walked forward and presented the letter to the guards, the guards on seeing his uniform and the note immediately opened the doors for him. Reskeme was soo shocked that it took him a moment to close his mouth from dropping his jaw before entering the lavish building. Upon entering the massive hall of the building he could see counters and items set out on display with people selling and buying. The crowd wasn't rowdy all of them seemed well dressed and haggled with the people behind the counter

Reskeme was confused at where to go when a well-dressed man in formal attire walked over in a ridged posture and asked Reskeme if he needed help. In Reskemes' opinion, the guy looked like he had something stuck in his butt and was standing up straight to avoid the pain.

The butler saw the boys lost expression and instructed Reskeme to follow him with a no-nonsense tone. Reskeme probably would half to wait alone in a room for the Guildmaster to arrive which suited him perfectly. The man escorted him up some stairs and into a big side room obviously for meetings. The room was empty as the boy hoped. He was instructed to wait by the man with a ridged posture before he was left alone.

Reskeme let out a sigh not even 5 minutes later his spells broke and came apart exposing his demonic appearance. He channelled his mana this time his mana channels hurt to channel soo much mana in one day, this made sense as this was the third time today which was a new personal record for him. Reskeme was barley able to channel his second layer for his spell to change his hair.

5 minutes of waiting and Reskeme was getting bored. The room had two paintings that were surrounded by some wood that Reskeme had no need for. There were some small pieces of metal on the desk that Reskeme was eyeing up they held stacks of paper together and looked kind of sturdy.

Reskeme casually walked over and putting himself between the paper and the door he removed the thin piece of metal that was bent in a weird shape. Reskeme spotted a couple inside a container and decide that it would be better to take a few of those. He put back the first one and took 4 from the container. Reskeme felt that if he took only 4 it wouldnt be noticed, the boy put the four metal wires into the inside of his coat out of site.

Before he went over to one of the chairs in front of the desk sat down and waited. Reskeme was starting to feel bored again and eyeing for something else that the guild could donate maybe one of those candle holders he thought. When a well-dressed skinny man entered the room. The man had a clean shaved face and was dressed in expensive-looking clothes. Reskeme almost feinted when he noticed that the stitching was done with gold threads.

The man was no-nonsense and held out his hand. Taking his cue Reskeme handed the man the Letter. The man checked the seal ,broke it and read the contents. When the guild master finished he walked over to the desk pulled out a clean paper and scribbled for a minute. The Guild master blew on the ink and sprinkled sand on it. Reskeme was baffled as to why someone would cover writing in the sand but didn't have the option to ask as the man rolled up the parchment and sealed it with hot wax.

The guild master offered the scroll with the still smoking wax. Reskeme kept eyeing the silver candle holders, they looked extremely expensive and the boy could only imagine how much bread he could buy from selling even one of them. With a resigned sigh that he couldn't liberate one yet, Reskeme failed to offer his name in all of his thoughts.

The guild master could tell the boy was in a hurry to complete the job and eyed up Reskeme before he said, "Return this letter to Hank." Reskeme nodded, Took the offered scroll, turned and with a look that conveyed his urgent manner opened the office door and headed for the exit.

The guild master was pleased with the messenger. the messengers guild never let him down they were always right to the point and in a hurry to deliver as soon as possible. If only everyone was soo professional.

Reskeme needed to hurry his spells would wear off in ten minutes, luckily for him, People saw a messenger in a hurry and got out of his way. He made it to the exit, Reskeme was in such a hurry that he almost Ran straight into a girl who had just pushed opened the door.

The boy's time was running out before his spells wore off and he was caught. Reskeme quickly apologized to the girl who lifted her head and to his shock was someone Reskeme knew. The girl glaring at him was Trisha.

Reskeme really didn't want to be recognized and she was probably the only person left who could. He turned and was jogging to leave with his mind reeling while trying to avoid eye contact. The girl called "wait do i know you"?

Reskeme didn't bother to glance back as he stepped thru the door before sighing with relief and making his way in a jog back to the messengers guild. Reskeme was tired of close calls, and scared that Trisha recognized him. she had given him the same glare she always gave when she was being judgemental.

Reskeme realized there was no way he could get inside the messenger hall and leave before his spells wore off. He was realizing with some anxiety that he couldn't cast the spells again today. He kept asking himself why he was always causing himself soo much trouble.

Reskeme stepped into an alley and looked around it appeared no one was watching Soo he waited for a couple of minutes and with a whoosh of air the spells faded.

Immediately the boy began to channel his mana, which felt like he was burning from the inside out his mana channels were causing him to be in pain now.

Reskeme was only able to cover his skin with a layer of mana before he couldn't channel anymore. The boy was gasping for breath and was sweating like crazy. Reskeme sighed in relief as he walked out of the alley and headed back towards the messenger's hall. When he opened the door Hank said in a jovial voice, "I hope you didn't turn your hair white just for me?". This made Reskeme turn pale no wonder why people in the streets had given him odd looks.

Reskeme was starting to turn around to run like hell when Hank said, "Don't worry about it young sir I would change my appearance too if I could". This stopped Reskeme in his tracks that was a close one he thought. As it turns out he could just play it off as it was an illusion. Hank said, "I don't care what you make yourself look like as long as you don't do that type of thing on the job" This the man said with his trademark glare. Reskeme was relieved and happy that he had gotten away with a slip-up. Reskeme nodded and said, "Sorry sir I only wished to pull a practicle joke on my employer" before he smiled with a cheeky grin.

Hank held out his hand and said, "Give me the scroll". Reskeme made his way over to the huge man and passed him the slightly dusty scroll. Reskeme hoped the man didn't notice the little bit of dirt on the message. Hank eyed up the boy and said, "You need a bag to carry your messages we don't tolerate sloppiness" Hank said, "we will give you a bag although you will be required to buy it from us." Reskeme said, " I dont have enough money for food let alone cloths" he said while scratching his head.

Hank eyed up the boy before he said,"We do offer rooms and even sponser our members to go to school to advance their magic if they show promise". Seeing Reskemes shocked look Hank said," I am only a high member of this branch of the messengers guild." Hank decided to enlighten the boy, he said," If A magic user shows promis then a noble or merchants guild will pay enourmous amounts of money to buy the magic user from the orginization."

Seeing the look of horror Hank continued, " no we do not sell the mages into slavery. The buyer offers to pay off the contract of the mage and highers them to thier own house or orginization".Reskeme asked,"what are the benifits to the mage?" Hank Replied"If you are found to have talent in magic which it seems you do then a guild or a noble house might approach us and give us an offer."Hank continued" If all parties agree including you then you will go work for them and all partys are left happy And much richer."

Hank said "Dont worry boy I have already written a letter and sent it to one of the major citys telling of a young illusionist that surely needs some attention". Reskeme was mad and shocked he said, " wait you sent someone with a letter telling your other guilds that i am an illusionist?" Hank Replied,"Of cource illusionists are soo rare that finding one even in a city this big is like finding a box of gold in the street."

Reskeme Grumbled and cursed himself for not knowing how rare his magic was. He cursed that damned mage Rufus the man had said it was rare but Reskeme thought he meant oh i have a couple friend mages who are illusionists kinda rare, not the albino crow rare.

Reskeme deciding it couldnt be changed said, "Is that all i need to deliver today"? Hank replied, "Yes before walking over to his counter and stepping behind it". Reskeme was in a grumpy mood today hadnt been productive in the slightest he hadnt stolen anything worth even a copper and was getting hungry. Hank pulled out 3 coppers and put them on the desk before saying "this is your pay for your work today."He paused before with a pained look said" Im sorry its not much we we will be taking 70% to pay off your clothing for the next month until you have it payed off". The boys jaw dropped his hands shook and his heart was beating soo quick he thought he was going to pass out.
