Chapter (Dark Guild)
After a couple of seconds of silence in which Reskeme thought he must really dream, he finally answered," what did you say?"
"You are now a member of the guild," Enis replied.
After hearing this statement, Reskeme was sure that Enis must be an idiot.
Enis upon seeing Reskemes confusion said," Yes, I'm forcing to join the guild. You get to pay off your debt to our magnificent association."
" What do you mean? I never agreed to something like that." Reskeme yelled,
"Well, you covered my floor in blood. Not to mention you made one of my basement rooms fowl. You also used up a priceless one of a kind artifact."
Reskeme was now sure that the man he was talking to was indeed an idiot.
"I didn't even get the money you promised, at no time did I say I would pay for all that pain and torture you, forced upon me," Reskeme said this with a clear emphasis on the forced part.
"With the cost of the items and personnel involved with your transformation. The total is ten thousand gold coins." said Enis grinning.
"I will one gold from your bill instead of the original one copper coin. Leaving your bill at the discount price of Nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine gold." said Enis, letting his words sink in.
Feeling like he was going to faint from hunger and the shock he stared at Enis in a stupor. What? that was just ridiculous, nine thousand? Ten minutes later and a bunch of slaps to the face, cheek burning Reskeme stare the being of cruelty in the eyes.
" Surely I was mistaken" said Reskeme. He couldn't afford something like that, and where did he get a price so absurd?
The man in front of Reskeme just laughed at his expression of dread.
"Don't worry, you can pay it off in the next 100 Years." said Enis. The tall, dark-haired man stared into his eyes as Reskeme contemplated what to do.
Reskeme most certainly would not pay him back. But maybe he could get something out of this shitty situation.
"What do I get for joining the guild? And what the hell did you do to me?, I think my skin is stained red and I have something growing out of my skull." Reskeme said Shuddering.
"Don't forget your hair is white as snow." Enis said grinning.
" I combined your soul with a demon." said Enis. Reskeme swallowed hard, What did the man just say?
"Don't give me that look. I gave you the potential for tremendous power and all it cost you was some pain." said Enis.
Now Reskeme was a little curious. This situation sucked. To make things worse, he also smelled worse than a privy that was used by gutter rats. This whole thing was really confusing, but the thought of getting power was more than enough for Reskeme to pretend to follow this guild.
"What kind of demon did you turn me into?" said Reskeme, breathing deeply through his mouth.
"None of your business that's top secret." Replied Enis.
" You will find out eventually when you get more powerful. When you pay off your debt to me, I will tell you all you want to know." said Enis, grinning like a soldier catching him out past curfew.
"You don't know, do you," Reskeme said?
"Shut up wise-ass" Enis retorted, brows knitting together.
"Why do you even want me to get stronger, wouldn't that make me more dangerous to you"? siad Reskeme.
"Possibly, there is a reason I have those shackles on you. They were actually about half of your expense." Enis said with a truly evil smile.
"You are making me pay for my own handcuffs?" Reskeme shouted.
"Yes, of course. Do you want me to pay for them? When you are one of the few beings in this entire world who would ever need demon containing shackles? And besides, I need to pay off my boss, that greedy Pentir." Mumbled Enis.
So that's what they do, Reskeme thought with a victorious grin. Enis didn't notice or care that he told him something so valuable.
Enis eyed him up and down. Seeing the guild master lost in thought, Reskeme asked, "What am I going to be doing for you? And what are you going to give me to make this borderline soul Robbery worth it?"
"I have many students fighting to get more powerful and gain a higher position. The ones that show the most promise get the best training in magic and in combat lessons." said Enis.
"Magic? Like becoming a mage?" said Reskeme.
"You will fight for your power like everyone else. If you perform poorly, you will get taught shitty magic. If you fight poorly, you will get taught by a shitty teacher." Replied Enis.
Reskeme's heart skipped a beat. Deciding that he should at least get something from these morons he tentatively agreed.
"Do I get paid?" Reskeme asked, rubbing his steel clad wrists together.
"Of course. You get Seven copper a week. Your rent is five coppers a week and your food for the week will be another five coppers. ," said Enis.
"What! you're a crook!" shouted Reskeme.
"Your a big boy, you look like a man by now. You will figure out how to make the extra copper pay or you won't get any food." said Enis as he leaned back in his leather chair.
Enis stood and walked over to Reskeme while taking a key from his robe. He unlocked the parts holding the chain to the handcuffs. Enis took a tablet that looked older than dirt out of his desk and chanted some words. Reskeme felt a tugging as Enis chanted, waving his hands around, causing the handcuffs to change from menacing to look like small inconspicuous bracers.
Now his chains could be hidden by a long shirt, Reskeme thought. That wouldn't help him though, as his appearance was far worse. Taking out a necklace from his desk, Enis offered the shiny pendant to Reskeme.
"What is the catch with the necklace?" said Reskeme.
"Nothing, it's a gift of the guild." Enis Replied bearing his yellow teeth.
"It is a symbol of the guild and Given freely to everyone accepted also, I added a minor illusion enchantment to it to help disguise your appearance." Enis said.
After Reskeme put the necklace on, Enis smirked and said," Oh it has tracking and an enchantment so you can't leave the building or the city without my permission."
"Trying to take it off will also cause some major discomfort. Good luck with that!" said Enis As though it was an afterthought. Reskeme realized he could never trust a single word this man ever says.
Enis called for the guard after he put the pendant on the boy's neck and ordered him to escort the kid back to his room. Enis told the guard a lock was no longer necessary. Reskeme assumed it was because he wasn't going anywhere with that unwholesome medallion on. Exhausted, Reskeme stumbled towards the door.
" Get him a loaf of bread. He looks dead on his feet, but that is all. We can't have him expecting a free stay." Said Enis.
The guard bowed, his face turning slightly green. "Yes, my lord." Said the guard.
"Take him to have a bath, the boy can stay in the closet by the stairs to the dungeons, it's cleaner than the cells." Said Enis Plugging his nose with one hand. Sighing, the guard pushed the boy to the door while covering his face with one arm.
"Come, boy. You need to scrub yourself and your clothes so the trainers don't die from the smell." said the guard in a muffled voice.
In a tired haze, Reskeme followed the guard down the halls and back towards the dungeons. They turned corners, went downstairs and passed a lot of muddy doors on the way back. They arrived at a door that was plain and was almost falling off its hinges. The guard unlocked the door before letting the Reskeme.
"Wait here," the guard said. Reskeme looked at the little room. It was small he could barely lay down, but it wasn't dirty, there was just some dust. Much better than sewer and rats..
Compared to the previous places Reskeme had slept, it was like one of those fancy merchant buildings he had seen. The man returned with a bowl full of water, and a hard loaf of bread. The guard also passed him a big sack that looked like it was for potatoes, but it would make a good blanket. The rough sack was rough against his skin, but it was warm and dry. Reskeme smiled, this place wasn't so bad.
"Go downstairs, clean yourself up. Piece of advice: clean up, eat some food and go to sleep. Tomorrow you will start training and it won't be easy," The guard said. At that, the guard scowled down at him and slammed the door on his way out.
