Chapter 1: Year 52 : Winter

The year flowed smoothly with a light winter, nearly 3 years have since passed, since power was handed to him over the federation.

the winds blew strongly over his cheeks as he rode on the metal machine inside the tunnel invented by one of the locals of Northwind, these machines worked by using steam to push a piston which then uses a rod and crank to transform the up and down motion into rotational energy in the wheels as was explained by the dwarths that created this machine, a truly revolution idea.

This being now the 50th trip of visiting different places within the federation, which was a whole lot different compared to the first time he went to visit the lands in the North east during the construction of Northwind which back then the situation was a lot different, back then it way filled with revenge, pain and sorrow but it was also filled with pride and hope for the future, a future which their children will be part of and their work.

The machine slowed down as they approached the tracks that were being built along with new tunnels for them to ride in, this was all passed in a new program to ease communication between mountain passes and to improve logistics between each pass by using shorted routes as well as shorter waiting time for supplies of course everything was at the trial state with very low funding.

"My Lord we have arrived at the site that will connect Northwind pass to Eler" said the manager of the machine that some of the Dwarths called trains.

"Thanks Phillip" replied Arthur who wanted to check the progress of the project that he enacted to make the connection between the mountain passes easier and faster before he would have to return home to the capital to take care of his noble duties.

"How's the work going?" Arthur asked as he stepped into the dimly lit room where dwarths swung their large and heavy pickaxes over their heads striking the wall each second taking large chunks off the wall.

The few dwarths paused their work looked at the young Prince before one of them replied "Thank you my lord for visiting us, our work has been going very well with the train taking the waste away and us home after many hours of work, I believe we will mine throught to Eler pass within 3 or 4 days with a lot more time going into fitting the rails into place and polishing out imperfections with our work. Thus I estimate that the work will take as little as 3 weeks on a good day"

"Can you make that in 2 weeks on a good day? The border is disturbingly quiet."

"My Lord the border has been quiet since your reign has begun, not a single soldier of the demon Lords army has passed the mountains since that day and because of that I believe we should prioritise safety and make sure the structure is firm and won't collapse.

"Trust me I understand your worry, but we must speed up the process of this project and prove that this project isn't a waste of resources of the state." his voice echoing through the long halls "We need RESULTS! AND, making the council fund the projects for the rest of the passes for upcoming conflicts against the demon Lord."

"I see. But for the project to finish in 2 weeks we will require more men working here" the dwarth replied in a respectful tone.

"Recruitment for this job has already started, two more will arrive tomorrow and hope fully more will come."

"Thank you my lord" said the dwarth in a merry voice before returning to his work.

"let us return Phillip, we have much work here" Arthur said to the dwarth riding the train

Arriving back at Northwind, Arthur gasped the stale air whilst looking down on the city within the mountains that mainly is inhabited by dwarths, after all they are most used to the stale thin air that is within the mountains.

The city was a bustling hub of trade of metals and precious stones that travelled throughout the federation.

It wasn't only a center or trade but it was also a militarised society within Northwind, mostly due to the dwarthen local government and dwarthen leadership in general that caused such a militarised society. Within Northwind all dwarths start compulsive military training at the age of 12 (Dwarthen adult age) till the age of 15 where they contribute in maintaining the Fort, fix damaged parts, formation drills, emergency wall repair during a frontal assault simulation drills and while in school 3-12 are taught military theories and engineers creating the most skilled engineers within the federation as well as core subjects like dwarthen history, Mathematics and education on other races wirhin the federation so that their unity can be better enforced.

The city was well planned as well with carefully calculated infrastructure that would help in defence or to slow down the enemy's attack (defence in deep)if the main walls were to be breached so that an allied relief force could be called up to take back the breached Fort.

It was a well worked system that in theory worked like a well oiled machine.
