Chapter 50: A Foe Appears

The rest of the week goes by, Lantla and Violet not wishing to speak to me, because of the gift and their desire to master it before the other.
So I went to the only person who spoke to me at this time, Sasha, and we've been having some really interesting conversations, at least at the beginning, then the conversations always devolved into Sasha wanting to talk about our war days. And as a Responsible Commander, I cannot comply!
Today was no different so at the end, I simply practiced the bow manipulation/mutation training once more, and Sasha went to god-knows-where.
For the first time, I pull out my bow, closing my eyes, I mutter, "Beginning Bow Manipulation..."
My peripheral vision narrows, and then so does my vision until only darkness remains, before like a projector turns on, the bow appears before me, and my system arrives soon after, showing me all the components I could upgrade automatically, another thing I learned while I was in Leech, that if I did some upgrades enough, they would automatically upgrade to the best possible quality that I made yet.
Of course, it did cost more Magical Essence but I firmly believe that it was worth it. At least time-wise, usually it takes me about half an hour, now it just takes five minutes!
I'm not going to do anything major since I quite like this bow, I think I'll settle with some cosmetic changes, like… racing stripes!

When I left I had a birch white bow, with several black lines, like they were carefully scorched on intricately.
The string was a Copper-like Red wire, however it was really just hemp dyed into that color. I think.
I think I've done well with creating a Mark of Distinction. Hopefully it wont give me away if I'm trying to hide though, honestly, I could probably just get an inventory slot just for my bow and another one for my arrows, so I can have an near infinite supply.
<Don't you try that, it takes 5 seconds for the arrow to appear, in that time you could end up dead>
'Hey System!? I thought you could only do that while I'm sleeping!!!' I cry, in my head. [Which sounds quite deranged....]

That time the System kinda sounded ashamed and was actually quiet! And not making fun of me at all! What a nice perk for once! 'Why did you lie to me them?'
<You see, I didn't want you to censor your thoughts since I can see all of your thoughts, even the dirty dirty things you want to do with Violet... so I decided to pretend like I couldn't>
What things with Violet? OK OK... maybe once or twice...
Suddenly the air goes silent, not the silent like all the bugs in the tree fell asleep, but more like the calm before the storm... the bugs were waiting in patience, waiting to see what will appear, and honestly, so do I.
But before I could do anything else the silence shattered like ice, there was a boom, and something suddenly appeared, a phoenix-looking bird with several people pearched to it. [I hate those MC's who can tell whether its a man or woman even though their like half a mile away, don't you?]
When the bird land and emits a shriek I call Sasha and Violet in, letting them know to hide until I give the signal to show themselves, in case this party is somehow not going to attack me, or are just very very weak.
By the time I finish giving the orders the bird lands and all the critters go silent, but this time like something killed them, not like they were waiting.
The remaining people, 12 I think, remained on the bird, kind of looking like smaller birds, perched to the mamma bird, what? I guess that its only me...
"Greetings fellow traveler, I assume you know whom I am?" The man asks, roughly 20 years of age covered in what looks to be heavy leather armor, probably not enough to stop my arrows, but enough to cause my arrow a little of trouble before penetrating.
"I's sorry, this mere servant has been born here, can you tell me who you is?" I ask simply, looking down at me toes.
"I am Fao Maolan! I am an envoyer of Warlord Maolan! My father! I do prefer the word enforcer however..." He says, trailing off.
