Chapter 9: Chapter 9- A journey is not just the end

Pov- Ivy

It has been a few hours since I put Mar asleep after she passed out. During this time, I spent my time making myself feel more at home in this bunker. I occasionally check on Mar and I see her sleeping peacefully most of the time, but when she starts whimpering or crying, I go over and hug her until she calms back down. She seems to be going on an emotional roller-coaster over the earlier message.

I have conflicting opinions on my actions earlier of playing the message. On one hand, I feel bad I caused Mar to be so confused on what to feel that she passed out. On the other hand, I am happy that Mar got closure with her mother to some sort of degree. It would break my heart if Mar thought her mother ran away from her, but really, Mar's mother didn't want Marr to see her die. After deliberating whether playing it or not was the right move, I decided that it most likely was.

After sleeping for about four hours, Mar slowly woke up. Before she woke up, I was hugging her to give her support, but as soon as she woke, I moved away from her and gave her some room. I watched as she slowly woke up and sat up in her bed. I watched as she started to take in the surroundings around her. Eventually, her eyes fell on me, and she said, "Thanks for playing the message, Ivy."

To that I replied, "It was my pleasure Mar." I told her with a smile. "Is there anything I could do to make you feel any better?" I asked her.

To that question she sat there in bed for a while contemplating my question until she asked me, "Ivy, could you help me go bury my mother?" To that question I gave her a positive nod and she smiled and thanked me. We both then grabbed the essentials. I grabbed my bow and arrows. Mar ended up grabbing a backpack and packing all sort of items in it. She packed food and water, along with what seems to be some sort of paper map that was drawn with crayons, but I never questioned it. Once we were both done, we left the bunker to go see Mar's mother.

So it turns out that the reason the map was drawn with crayons was because the map was made by Mar. Apparently her mother had her draw the map so she could follow it to what she calls "secret club house". So, using that map she drew we are going backwards on it to find where Mar last found her mother.

During our journey we spent time getting to know each other, which is good because I knew nothing about Mar yet. I let her start and tell me about herself and during our conversations I learned a few things about Mar. Mar grew up with only a mother like me, but unlike me, she was her biological mother. Another thing I learned about Mar is that she loves music. She likes making music and hopes to become a big rock star one day.

Eventually, Mar finishes telling me about herself and asks me a question I can tell she has been curious about for a while. "Are you human Ivy?" Mar asked me as we walked the baron waste land.

"What makes you think I am not human?" I asked her back with a chuckle in my voice.

"Well," Mar started to say, "earlier you were able to easily climb up the wall and hang from the wall and mess with the phone. The other clue would come from when you said you did not need to eat earlier." Mar told me this while looking at me straight in the eyes.

I laugh at how serious Mar was taking this whole situation. I laughed so hard a tear rolled down my eye. "Yah you are right," I start to tell her as I finally stop laughing, "I am in fact not human."

After my answer Mar started to look at me like she should have stars in her eyes if this was a cartoon. "What are you then?" she asked me with excitement.

I follow up her questions with a casual reply. I said, "I am a plant person." She looked like she was about to ask me more questions until I asked her my own question. "What are you Mar? I know you aren't just human." I asked her.

To this question she seems a bit hesitant to answer at first, eventually though she said, "I am a half-demon."

To her answer I just nod my head and tell her, "That's pretty cool." To my response Mar stopped dead in her tracks as we were walking. She started to look down and I am pretty sure I could see tears running down her face. "You okay Mar?" I asked her as I walked closer to her.

She slowly looked up and stared at me with tears. "What's the heck is wrong with you?" Mar yelled at me. I stopped dead in my tracks now after she yelled at me. "Didn't you hear me; I am a half-demon. I eat souls" She yelled at me again. Then she said one last thing but this one in a much more hushed tone. "I am a monster," she said. After saying this she sat down on the ground and pulled her legs to her chest and continued crying.

I smiled slightly looking at her on the ground. 'It's like looking in a mirror' I said to myself. I then sat down on the ground next to her on the ground. "Mar let me impart some wisdom upon you that I learned from someone very precious to me," I told Mar. After hearing me, Mar stopped crying and looked at me expectantly, waiting for me to continue. "I once told you it does not matter what type of being people are, if I care about them it shouldn't matter," I told Mar. "I care about you Mar, so even if you eat souls, it doesn't matter. To me you are my friend, that's all that matters."

After my little speech, Mar just stared at me for a bit before wiping the tears from her eyes and softly whispering, "Thanks Ivy."

I smile and reply, "Anytime Mar." I then got up and extended my hand to Mar and asked her, "You ready to continue our quest?"

Mar then started smiling and nodded to me. She grabbed my hand, and I brought her up. We then then continued our journey to find Mar's mother. Both smiling and laughing together even though in my heart I know that this journey's end will not be a happy one.
