"Faðir!" Liara protested—which stung me—but Lorias silenced her with a look.
"You were not present when this deal was made, but this was the price Will demanded when he agreed to assist me in rescuing you," Lorias lied.
Wow, as hastily made lies went, that was killer—and I was suddenly reminded that Lorias was a former cultist bastard who'd helped trick people to their deaths.
Liara turned a confused but also wary gaze at me next. "Is this true, Wisdom?"
See, this ljósálfar elder was so excellent at lying with a straight face that even his daughter could believe the highly implausible lie he just sold.
As for me, well, I wanted very badly to tell Liara that this was all a ruse, particularly because I wasn't fond of her giving me such a distrustful look. But in all honesty, I may have wanted to keep the lie going for as long as I could.
