So, this was what happened to the roof of the HuaLou, housing the God of Lightning, incognito in the human realms, enjoying the companionship of the beauties in the HuaLou. A tiger demon with fangs elongating down to his chin, with thick tiger fur covering his skin and bulging eyes, standing menacingly on the rooftop, shouted, "Surname Yuan! Get out here and face me!"
When the tiger demon shouted the whole town was rocked with earthquakes merely from his loud voice. The HuaLou was also directly below this demonic entity, the walls sway and debris everywhere on the people who earlier on were enjoying 'happy moments', had to stop at the sudden earthquake.
The trembling faded beauty, owner of the half-destroyed pleasure house, MaMa, tried hard to hold on, suddenly came to an epiphany. This must be about that tall and handsome man that was shy when she used her handkerchief to trail around his arms asking what kind of ladies he prefers, slim, voluptuous, young, or even herself. He looked so stiff and uncomfortable when she leaned on him asking more questions, while her hands roved around his muscular body, fingers tracing his pecs, what a fine male specimen!
He was so red on the tips of his ears and when he pushed her away, MaMa was not even slighted, finding him even more adorable. She had the insight to waved her hands to signal the girls, who had eyes like a hawk on prey when this delicious muscular man walked into the HuaLou. These heartless women did not even have any mood to coax their current customers, all of them threw off their paramours and flocked towards the MaMa and the god-like man.
Sigh! Why must all the good-looking man be taken? And apparently, he was broken sleeve and into a different type of extreme love, MaMa could only lament silently.
A sudden blast from inside the HuaLou and out came to the majestic figure of Yuan LeiFeng and another figure soon followed.
"What happened? Move over. Don't block my view, "LiHua tried to poke her head out, only to have Kai Zong shift and completely blocked off the window, hindering her view. She quickly yanked up her troublesome mask, moved to another window, not wanting to miss anything from the scene and was disappointed when all she saw that the HuaLou were only left with disarrayed immobile humans on the ground.
They left? Where did they go? Was the man with fangs and stripes, a tiger demon? It happened so fast and LiHua could only turn back and pout at Kai ZongSheng. What a killjoy, if she could only see where they headed to, she would have followed towards their direction.
Kai ZongSheng could only smile guilelessly at LiHua," It was too dangerous, what if something hit and hurt you? As your elder, I could only protect you this much. And please put on your mask back," Kai Zong adjusted the mask back in place, securing it, without making any comments about her overly attractive features.
Meanwhile, the pitiful figure of the MaMa was kneeling on the ground, looking at her destroyed building. Why was it always the angry lovers who wreck her place the hardest, and now who should she ask for compensation from this time around?
Kai Zong escorted LiHua to the doctor with his horse-drawn carriage and LiHua would not help but beam her excitement when she was helped unto the carriage by Kai Zong. It was her first experience seeing a horse and being inside a carriage. The wooden carriage looked simple from the outside but interior was lushly padded on the seats with gold thread brocade, the bamboo curtain was rolled up and the light gauze curtains help to shield the sunlight and outsiders gaze, giving the people inside privacy and a sense of clouds floating when the cool wind blows through the window.
LiHua had read from the stories that some ladies got sick and drowsy after seating in their carriage rides but she felt the only comfort without much bumps from the uneven road. It was once when she got jostled, she slightly knocked her head on the padded wall of the carriage, it was not even painful for her as she was quite used to rolling around but afterward, Kai Zong would help guard her head with his palm.
His kindness was awarded by LiHua's smile, and even though she was in a guise, one could not hide her sincere and pure smile. Kai Zong replied back with a small smile and patted her round soft head.
LiHua was looking out of the carriage window, Kai Zong asked some civil questions such as where she grew up and finding similarities with his younger siblings. She had a good impression of Kai Zong and enjoyed the light conversation with him, she told him she grew up in a rural mountainous area with her big family. Her family took care of everything for her and this was her first time in the city. She was lucky her young master was willing to take her to town while he ran his errands.
Soon they arrived at the doctor's residence and to LiHua's disappointment, the doctor was just regular as regular civilian could be, not the old white-bearded sagely man she had expected him to be. Before the young doctor could hold LiHua's hand to take her pulse, Kai Zong took his handkerchief and placed at the supposed young man's wrist. The young doctor slightly raised an eyebrow at the handkerchief but continued to take his young patient's pulse.
The doctor gave a diagnosis that the boy had too much air and gave him a list of medication to help to ease his indigestion. Kai Zong took out a paper from his sleeves and passed the list to the doctor's assistant next to him. The assistant seemed overwhelmed for the attention shown to him, took the paper as if he received a great order and hastily bowed before excusing himself to prepare.
"New recruit, not easy to get assistants these days," the doctor deadpanned. He offered to have his assistant to send the medicine list to Kai Zong's inn as it would take time to prepare, to which he agreed as he had to send the boy back too before the sunset.
They waited awhile for LiHua's medicine to be brewed and LiHua frowned when she saw the dark steaming concoction with a strong herb smell. She cried inside her heart of not learning any medicine skills to know what she was putting in her poor stomach.
'I'm going to remember this and mark it down!' LiHua gritted her teeth and sipped the medicine that tasted as bad as the color indicated. Bitterness awash in her mouth, and LiHua tried hard not to gag and coughed out, "I'm actually feeling much better, drinking just a mouthful already helped me so much! This doctor's medicine is very good indeed!"
With a slight smile, Kai Zong took a bowl filled with rock sugar and passed one to her. LiHua appreciated that he did not insist her to drink finish and thanked him while she popped three rock sugar into her mouth, crunching the sweetness like a squirrel, moving the sugars from one side of the cheek to the other.
"Sheng gongzi, do you have to purchase a lot of medicine? Is your brother so sick, that he has to drink so much medication? This doctor's medicine is horrid, I sympathize your brother a lot," LiHua shook her head while walking back towards Kai Zong's carriage.
"In our humble place, we have many things to keep the young ones occupied. As my brother is weakly, and cannot go out of the house, we made a roundabout, so he is very happy when he spins around. There is also a small boat in front of our house, that you can pedal without rowing, that could be tiring for my brother but at least he works out a little and we could keep an eye on him. We try to make new things so he doesn't worry about his health and keeps him occupied." Kai Zong smiled a little when he saw the boy in front of him got closer and closer to him with his eyes widening and sparkling brightly at each fun activity he mentioned.
"We usually don't have strangers visiting but since you are close in age with my brother, we welcome you to come and play."
"Really? I could? Where do you stay? Is it difficult to get there? Hmmm, but I'm not sure when I can return back after this...your brother maybe too old to play with me when I can return back," LiHua had been excited then she became dejected when she remembered the humans have short mortal lives and their timeline differences were very vast.
"To our future guest, do accept this token and show it when you come by to the foot of Mount KeLan, mention the name 'Kai' and someone would receive you. Even when I'm not there, someone else will host you in my stead." Kai Zong passed her shiny metal with a wolf emblem tied into a pretty knot and tassel.
LiHua looked into his sincere kind eyes and accepted it, thinking how many things this man had inside his clothing to be able to have so many things. Did he have more of these tokens? Must be quite heavy to carry some token around with him, and this was such a pretty special token, the wolf looked familiar somehow, could it be that she saw in a book before? In anyways, Kai Zong seemed more than he revealed and this token was definitely a keeper!
