Chapter 41: Reality of the Apocalypse

Feeling threatened by the Demon Spider, the Broodmother locked her gaze on the creature, her scarlet eyes radiating an aura of inhuman violence. Her entire body began to tremble.

Berserk State!

The giant corpse beetle is a creature prone to rage. Once it goes berserk, it completely loses all sense of control. Though it requires a long period of rest after the battle to recover, during its berserk state, it becomes numb to pain, and its strength is significantly amplified.

Roar!!

The Broodmother let out a heart-wrenching roar, her terrifying maw dripping with putrid corpse fluid.

She reared up and stomped down hard on the ground.

A violent cloud of dust erupted, sweeping across several meters, sending debris and thick smoke billowing into the air.

The Demon Spider had no choice. It had to attack. Fleeing would only result in unnecessary injuries.

As everyone knows, the Demon Spider is one of the most terrifying creatures in the Abyss. It is pure, deadly, and sometimes even elegant. In the darkness, you never know what awaits you. One moment, you may be full of life, and the next, you could fall victim to its lethal kiss of death.

Shadow Shuttle.

The Demon Spider's figure gradually blurred in the darkness, its concealment abilities nearly impossible to comprehend. There were no footsteps, not even the distinctive stench of monsters. Like a ghost, it moved through the shadows, where many dark creatures in the Abyss would find themselves dead before they even noticed its presence.

The Broodmother felt no fear. Leaning forward, she lashed out with her scarlet tongue, which cut through the air with a shrill whistle, harvesting life like the scythe of Death.

She swung it wildly.

Squeak!

There was a muffled thud.

Blood splattered on the ground from the shadows—it was clear that the Demon Spider had been hit, but it didn't seem to be a critical wound. Instead, it seemed enraged. Its barbed legs shot forward, hooking onto the Broodmother's tongue, pulling it into the shadows.

Hissss...

The Broodmother let out a maddened howl. Her savagery was unleashed in full as she snapped off one of her own limbs to avoid being dragged forward. Still, she lay flat on the ground, her remaining limbs tearing and pulling inch by inch, until she finally stopped the pull from the shadows.

Evenly Matched.

The loss of limbs only fueled the Broodmother's rage. She stood there, her body covered in blood, exuding an unparalleled sense of oppression. Her giant red eyes flickered with human-like negative emotions—hatred and brutality, overflowing with murderous intent!

Venom!

Charge!

The Broodmother didn't wait to be killed. She tensed her limbs and, in the next second, lunged directly at the Demon Spider!

There was no escape.

The Demon Spider, still bleeding, had lost its ability to shuttle through the shadows. Everything had happened too quickly. It was hit by the Broodmother and sent crashing to the ground, disoriented.

In the next instant...

The Broodmother pounced, her petal-like mouthparts piercing the Demon Spider's body. A large chunk of flesh was torn away, and its emerald green blood spilled onto the ground.

The Demon Spider was in unbearable pain, as if crushed by the pressure of a thousand-meter-deep ocean, surrounded by an inescapable force. Its head pounded with a cacophony of cracking sounds. Its massive body jerked violently, its eight legs digging deep into the ground, leaving gaping holes everywhere.

"In... li..."

'Help...'

Though it couldn't speak, the Demon Spider had the ability to communicate through thought. In its mind, it called out to Chen Feng for help.

Chen Feng's eyes glinted coldly as he looked at the Demon Spider. "The more material for the blood sacrifice, the better. The Broodmother must die, and you... you have a reason to die here as well."

Mercy?

There is no such word in the apocalypse.

The purpose of a summoned beast's existence is to be sacrificed.

Morality? Companionship? Sentimentality?

Dark Elves, Dretches, and even the Demon Spider—if they aren't fighting, their survival depends solely on their value.

Does anyone form an emotional attachment to their kitchen knife?

If a knife rusts, dulls, or breaks, it's either left to gather dust in a corner or replaced with a sharper one.

The same principle applies to summoned beasts.

Once they lose their value or needed for sacrifice, they should be cast aside, giving their life for their master!

Chen Feng had long since reached this profound realization.

This is the harsh reality of the Apocalypse!

"From the beginning, I never intended for you to leave here alive. The blood sacrifice requires the body of a strong creature, and you are just as important. I'll remember your contribution, so... please die now!"

Relentless Betrayal.

The Demon Spider heard Chen Feng's words.

It went mad, thrashing desperately in place, its legs clawing at the ground until it left deep gouges. It wanted to kill this so-called "master," but the Broodmother had it pinned down. The distance between them was only a few meters, but it might as well have been worlds apart.

Because of the contract's rules, the Demon Spider had been summoned from the Abyss to help Chen Feng fight an enemy it didn't want to face. It succeeded—it had seriously wounded the Broodmother. But when it needed help, all it received was ruthless betrayal.

From a small spider in the Abyss, it had gradually climbed to its current form. Now, it was over. It wouldn't survive to see the end of the contract—it would be killed!

Resentment, Rage, Roaring!

"In... te..."

The Demon Spider howled toward the sky. The relentless betrayal unleashed the fury it had buried deep within. Its eyes bulged, veins of crimson spreading across them, its expression filled with cold and deathly malice. It vented all its anger on the Broodmother!

Creak!

A deafening crack sounded as the Demon Spider broke all eight of its legs, and the sudden surge of strength drove them straight through the Broodmother's body.

Head, chest, abdomen.

The eight spider legs, like javelins, pierced through the Broodmother's vital points. This once-unstoppable monster, the aberration that had reduced an entire school of teachers and students to food, met its end on the body of the Demon Spider.

Up and down.

With all its strength exhausted in the final attack, the Demon Spider would die soon.

Its scarlet eyes, hidden deep within the shadows, brimmed with an unquenchable hatred and fury.

It stared at Chen Feng with a gaze that spoke of a desire to tear him apart, drink his blood, rip out his tendons, flay his skin, crush his bones, and scatter his ashes...

The Demon Spider gasped for breath, its pupils losing focus until they were empty.

It died.

Silently.

"Thank you."

Chen Feng murmured to himself, though there was no trace of guilt or remorse in his eyes. If anything, there was only excitement and madness.

The Blood Sacrifice.

It was in arms reach!
