Sister Cassia ushered Jason inside the room which had the achron, his affiliated officials and the orphanage officials seated. The achron, George was an amiable man. He looked at sister Cassia and asked : "Sister, is this young lad, Jason ?" Sister Cassia was quite respectful while she answered : "Yes achron."
George : Jason, you must be very curious to know why we want to speak with you. Worry not lad, for I have good news.
Jason : Thanks achron George. However, I will be lying if I say that I was not curious to know why the chief magistrate and his associated officials are looking for me.
George : Jason, there was a survey done by the city officials on the young gents and ladies being fostered by the orphanages of the city. We are touring the promising orphanages to find out suitable candidates who can join the city Council vacant positions. I have heard a lot about you from your neighbours and you are one of the top students in the Heavenly Mother. We want you to come to the magistrates Square and give an examination which will determine whether you are eligible to join the vacant city Council positions. If you pass the examination, you along with other promising candidates will be tutored by the magistrates Trust for 2 years after which you will be requested to join the vacant position which is conducive for you.
Jason was very surprised. He thought for a brief moment and said : "Thank you very much for the generous offer, achron. However, is that offer only for me? I have brothers and sisters in the orphanage who are quite good as well. I am sure they will be able to do everything that I can and as such they deserve a chance too. "
George was a bit surprised after hearing that from the boy. He had a bit more understanding of the affable nature of the young lad. He said :" He is as you have said Cassia. We need young honest lads like him. "
Jason was surprised. He did not know that the achron and sister Cassia were acquaintances.
George : Surprised Jason ? Yes, I know your Mother. We are old friends. Anyways, to answer you : yes, we will be on the lookout for any other promising candidates from the orphanage. And this is not something that we are doing only for the Heavenly Mother. We are keeping a close look at the literacy rate of majority of the well functioning orphanages in the city. Be assured lad, talent will get it's due under this administration.
Cassia : Thank you George and esteemed officials of the magistrate. I am sure our boys and girls will be benefitting tremendously from this.
Jason : Thank you achron for your consideration.
George : Don't worry about that. I will suggest you to come to the magistrates Square tomorrow morning before 9 0' clock so that you can give the exam for evaluation.
Jason, who was quite happy to hear that he has a chance to make his career, replied : "Certainly achron. I will be there without fail."
Having heard that, George and his officials bid Jason, Cassia and the other orphanage officials goodbye and left. Cassia and a few orphanage directors brought in the older boys and girls and informed them of the news, which made them very happy. They were all very proud of Jason for being the first person to represent them while he goes to give the exam tomorrow. Dorian was quite ecstatic. He teased Jason : "Jason, old boy, will you remember us after you become a city official or do we have to take official appointments to meet you?"
Jason : First of all Dorian, I am giving the exam tomorrow. I do not know whether I will pass. Secondly, if I do pass and after 2 years, I do become a city official, I will have the means to do something for this place and the people who live here which I never had the ability to do earlier. And you, my friend hopefully, would have probably given up your useless pursuits and would have matured enough to know that friends do not require appointments to meet each other.
Dorian: Cheer up old boy. You are always way too serious.
Whilst the boys were having fun at each other's expense, sister Cassia told them: " That's enough boys. Please wash your hands and feet. Jason please cook the stew quickly and have your dinner. You need to rest well today so that you can give a good exam tomorrow." Jason replied : "Yes Mother . I will get started on it right away. But Mother, can Dorian accompany me to the magistrates Square tomorrow? I will be more confident, if he is there."
Cassia gave her agreement which elated Jason and Dorian both. Jason then went to the kitchen and cooked the meat stew. After that he had an early dinner and went to bed. While he slept a peaceful sleep, he was dreaming hopeful dreams of a career that will use his talents well and using which he can contribute to the well being of the orphanage and it's inhabitants.
Jason's such a good natured lad. Writing about him makes me want to believe that there is still a lot of good people left in this earth.
