Chapter 11
Date: May 3, 1990
Location: St. Augustine's Orphanage, London
As David continued to play his flute, the soft, melodic notes filled his room, wrapping him in a cocoon of tranquility. The warm glow of the setting sun streamed through the window, casting a golden hue over the room. He lost himself in the music, feeling its familiar comfort, until a sudden commotion in the common area drew his attention.
Curiosity piqued, David set down his flute and stepped into the hallway, where he found a group of children gathered near the entrance of the orphanage. Their excited whispers and animated gestures hinted at something special happening.
He approached and spotted two adults standing at the door — a tall man with a strong build and a woman with a warm smile, both radiating an aura of kindness. The man had dark, tousled hair and a confident stance, while the woman's gentle eyes seemed to sparkle with enthusiasm. David's heart raced; he had seen couples come to the orphanage before, but something about this couple felt different.
"Hello there!" the woman said, her voice sweet and inviting. "We're the Joestars, and we're here to meet some of the children. We're hoping to find a son to adopt."
David's breath caught in his throat. The prospect of being chosen, of having a family, sparked a hope he hadn't dared to entertain since his arrival. He watched as the Joestars interacted with the other children, their laughter filling the air, and he felt an undeniable pull towards them.
After a while, the couple began to move through the orphanage, speaking with the caretakers and playing with the children. David, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, hung back, unsure of how to approach them. He took a deep breath, activating his order: I am brave. With a newfound confidence, he stepped forward.
"Hi," he said, trying to keep his voice steady. "I'm David."
The woman knelt down to his level, her expression softening. "Hello, David! It's so nice to meet you. Do you play the flute?" she asked, glancing at the instrument he had left behind.
"I do! I just had a recital today," David replied, his pride bubbling to the surface. "I played really well."
The man smiled, his eyes glimmering with interest. "That's fantastic! Music is such a wonderful way to express yourself. What else do you enjoy doing?"
"I like to read and explore," David said, the memories of his favorite books flooding his mind. "And I want to learn more about music."
Emily Joestar's smile widened. "That's wonderful! We love music in our family. I play the piano, and Jonathan here—" she gestured to her husband, "—is quite the singer."
David felt a warmth spread through him at their enthusiasm. As the conversation flowed, he sensed a connection forming, something he had longed for since he had woken up in this unfamiliar world. The couple listened intently, asking questions about his favorite books and interests, and he felt at ease.
After some time, Jonathan Joestar looked at his wife, then back at David, a serious expression crossing his face. "David, we've met so many wonderful children today, but there's something special about you. We think you'd be a great fit for our family."
David's heart soared at the words. The hope he had felt earlier blossomed into something real. "Really?" he asked, barely able to contain his excitement.
"Really," Emily confirmed, her voice warm and reassuring. "We'd love to have you come home with us."
The news felt surreal. David could hardly process what was happening. "But… I'll miss my friends here," he said, a flicker of sadness crossing his heart.
Jonathan nodded, understanding. "We want you to keep in touch with them. And we'll make sure you have a place in our family where you can grow and explore your interests."
With those words, David felt the last of his hesitation melt away. This was the chance he had been waiting for. He would no longer be just David from the orphanage — he would be David Joestar, part of a family that embraced him for who he was.
After some final discussions with the caretakers, the paperwork was completed, and within a short while, David found himself standing outside with Jonathan and Emily, holding their hands tightly. As they walked to the car, he felt a mixture of fear and excitement course through him.
Jonathan Joestar's POV
As we walked out of the orphanage, I glanced down at David, his small hand clutching mine with a firm grip. He seemed nervous, but his eyes sparkled with a glimmer of hope. I couldn't shake the feeling that we had made the right choice by choosing him. There was something about his spirit, his love for music, and the way he engaged with others that drew me in immediately.
As I looked back at the orphanage, I felt a sense of purpose. I wanted to protect David, to give him a life filled with love and opportunity. He would not only be our son but a part of our legacy.
Emily Joestar's POV
David's excitement was palpable as we walked towards the car. I had seen many children come through the orphanage, but there was something about him that resonated deeply within me. Perhaps it was his determination or the way he spoke with such passion about music. I couldn't help but feel that he was meant to be part of our family.
As I watched him absorb the newness of the moment, I felt a surge of maternal instinct. I would nurture his talents, encourage his passions, and provide a safe space for him to grow. I had a vision of us, a family united by love and creativity. I couldn't wait to see what the future held for us all.
End of chap.
