Chapter 56: Before the council

" Is she awake? " I heard a soft voice ask. 

The voice was followed by shuffling and footsteps that kept getting closer and closer. Was I dreaming about hearing voices? My vision was black and I couldn't tell if my eyes were open or closed. 

" No, but she is self-aware, " came a reply from the voice of a man. 

A lot of scents clouded my nostrils. There was the scent of lavender and the musky and minty scent of a man. I could have sworn there was the scent of daisies in the air too. 

" Should we wake her? " Came the soft voice again. 

The question was followed by chuckling and a hand on my forehead. 

" I like her. She's pretty and sexy. If we wake her, I'll start to hate her for the words that will most likely come from her mouth. " 

I heard a smack like someone had been slapped followed by more chuckling. 

" You love women too much, Jason, " the soft voice reprimanded.
