Annika's heart raced as she stood beside Alex , her skin prickling at the mere thought of his touch . She recoiled inwardly , determined to keep her distance, even as the traditional exchange of rings loomed before them.
When the moment arrived for Annika to place the ring on Alex's finger ,she hesitated ,her fingers trembling as she sought to avoid his touch. With a quick and almost furtive motion , she slipped the ring onto his finger, a fleeting glance beyraying her discomfort.
Across from her , Alex's demeanor was one of cold determination, his eyes narrowed with a steely resolve. As he reached for Annika's hand to reciprocate the gesture , a predatory glint flickered in his gaze. Ignoring her subtle flinch, he forced the ring onto her finger , his grip unyielding despite her obvious discomfort.
Annika's breath caught in her throat as pain shot through her , a silent gasp escaping her lips. In that moment of agony, she felt a sirge of defiance rise within her , fulling her determinayion to take control of the situation. With a swift and decisive movement , she wrested the ring from Alex's grasp, sliding it onto her finger with a sense of triumph .
The room erupted into applause , the sound echoing like a thunderous crescendo aganist the backdrop of tension . Yet amidst the cheers and congratulations , Annika couldn't shake the lingering sense of unease that clung to her like a shadow.
As the evening wore on the strained atmosphere refused to dissipate , casting a pall over the festivities. Annika's gaze darted furtively around the room , searching for an escape from the suffocating weight of the engagement celebration. Little did she know that the true test of their tumultuous relationship was only just beginning .
