Chapter 16: Dressed up for the party

Ruoruo had a lot of fun with her sister as they chose a dress for her and all she was going to wear with it. They had their hair done in the same place and when they were done, the usually tomboyish Ruoruo looked like a very girly girl.
Lin Jing did not have any other female friends to hang out with as she has been busy with her work and studies to hang out with those few friends she made in college.
"I am not sure I would be able to last through the night on these?" Ruoruo complained looking down at the web heeled sandals her sister had her wear.
"It is okay, it is barely seven centimeters," Lin Jing encouraged her sister as she helped her sister zip up her gown.
"The gown is too revealing too," Ruoruo complained wearing a constipated look as she looked at herself in the mirror. The girl she saw in the mirror was everything different from the girl she was.
"Just for tonight, okay?" she asked her sister as she could not imagine her sister wearing one of those baggy jeans and sweatshirts she always wears.
"Fine, but I deserve a gift," Ruoruo agreed with a pained expression as though she wanted to cry. "I will endure it for you."
"Thank you," Lin Jing appreciated as she adjusted her sister's short hair that was styled to look more girly than it used to look.
"You are welcome. Just be sure to remember that I will have you wear sneakers and sweatshirts," Ruoruo warned her sister and looked at the girl in the mirror.
"You are very beautiful in these and I am sure that I would not mind wearing sneakers and sweatshirts, I wear them at home," she replied her sister confidently. She was not into dressing formally every day as a secretary or assistant.
Formal clothes don't suit her when she is working but she always changes from her work clothes before leaving the building and there are some VIP patients she has to meet dressed properly.
She saw nothing wrong with the way her sister dressed because the way she dressed did not diminish her beauty at all her make her look like she had no other clothes.
They were stylish in a way that suited her sister's personality and she was not against it but she wanted her sister to dress well for the party as she was sure most of the people that would be around would be people who were of high status and she has to fit well into the setting.
She did not want her sister to be looked down on because she was dressed too casually. She felt sorry but she had to have her sister on her side this night.
She did not have any other person to invite or she would be forced to be alone throughout and that would not feel good among strangers she knew nothing about.
"Do you think this is necessary?" Ruoruo was forced to ask her sister despite how had she tried not to as she wanted to completely trust her sister's decisions.
Lin Jing turned to her sister with a puzzled look on her face as she did not want to answer the question so she might as well act like she did not know what her sister was talking about.
"Must you get engaged? You could just date openly and show that you are a loving couple. How would you break it off easily when you want to? You met his parent," Ruoruo asked worriedly as her eyes dimmed sadly.
"His parents want him to get engaged and I needed a boyfriend. I could have dated someone else but how sure am I that they would believe that I am in a relationship and I am not going after Mr. Lu Tian?
"I have also been in other relationships like you know but I have never taken it to this level. I am not doing this because I want to but because I want to.
"I don't want to get beaten up again in my life. I will use him as my shield while in this relationship and if he thinks it is okay for us to get married, I would not mind," she told her sister sincerely.
"You are so . . . I don't know," her sister breathed and shook her head. She has never been able to understand her sister since her sister left home when she turned seventeen.
"I don't want you to understand. I am making you a member of a powerful family by doing this. I have been friends with Mr. Shen for years now and I have seen what privileges they enjoy.
"Won't it be better for me to marry one of them if he treats me nice enough? If he treats me better than the other men have treated me, I will agree to marry him if he wants.
"I cannot continue to rely on my beauty forever, I will have a chance to get what I want from a relationship."
Ruoruo narrowed her eyes but said nothing as she did not trust what her sister was saying. She knew there is always a motive behind her sister's relationship with all those men she had been with.
Her sister's beauty was unparalleled and she had been in other relationships and unlike she expected, the relationships always end in different funny and confusing ways that had her wondering why her beautiful sister was mistreated by those men who seemed to be head over heels for her before they break up.
None of those men ended up well. Her sister always appeared sad when she spoke about them but she could not see authenticity in her words and expressions.
She was confused but there were many things her sister had made sure she knows better than to talk about when they are together.
She believed that with her sister, there was more to everything about her than people could see with their eyes. "Are you sure he will not treat you like those others did?"
"I am sure," Lin Jing replied. She could easily guess the withheld purpose behind her sister's question but it was best for her to act oblivious to it.
She smiled and walked out of the closet with her sister following. She strongly believed as she was taught that there were many things she has to keep from the younger generation.
