Chapter 2: Training In Asgard

Two years had passed since Nate Grey had arrived in Asgard. Odin had an understanding of what the Phoenix Force was, which conveniently told Nate that it actually did exist in this universe, though he really wasn't that shocked about it.

Nate had prioritized invisibility, immortality, regeneration and resurrection to develop first, taking nearly a year for just that, so while he still fell way short of the Hulk, Thor, or Thanos in terms or power potential, he wouldn't be killed by any of them either, and he still had a lot more time to develop his skills

His training with Hope for the remainder of that two year time period had allowed Nathan to enhance his speed, strength, agility, stamina and durability, as well as giving him cold and fire resistance, the ability to fly, enhanced senses, and the ability to breath underwater or even in a vacuum.

Frankly, the sheer list of abilities that Hope possessed for him to master one by one was absolutely immense, so it was natural to learn the ones that would allow him to stay alive long enough to learn the rest of the abilities.

At first he had assumed that he'd have to do something lame, like meditate and build up an unseen gauge from zero to one-hundred percent, but reality was a bit more generous, where he had to train in all sorts of different methods to inherit each ability that he targeted.

Some indeed were as simple as meditating, while others, like the last skill he mastered, flying, involved repeatedly throwing himself off a cliff. Naturally, he saved it until now to increase his durability and his regeneration before trying it. He knew that flying was partly telekinetic in nature, though in a very limited and mostly internal way, so by picking it up he expected that he would pick up telekinesis quicker later.

He instinctively understood that if he tried to learn telekinesis all at once then it was going to take far greater effort and more time to grasp then if he first learned internal/localized telekinesis through the flight skill to serve as a foundation for the rest of his training in telekinesis.

During their stay is Asgard, apart from an obligatory meeting with the King, Nate and Hope traveled out of the city and mostly trained in solitude in the mountains, though they were occasionally visited by Thor, Loki and the Warriors Three, since Thor was interested in sparring with Hope.

Thor never even came close to beating Hope over those two years, but about once a month he'd try again. It appeared that she had lit a fire in his warriors spirit and he'd been training even harder then usual. For Nate, though, he was more interested in trying to befriend Loki.

While he did not want to indiscriminately change fate, because he still wanted Thor to come to Midgard at the designated time, he hoped to change Loki for the better. After two years here, though, it was time to leave for the next stage of his journey to train.

For the next three years, he intended to travel to Olympus and to train with the gods there. With his immortality and regeneration at this level, he could survive anything that they threw at him, and he could push his enhancement skills to the absolute pinnacle while developing more skills from the Phoenix Force, starting with Telekinesis and Magic, but before they left they knew that they needed to meet Odin and get the politicking out of the way

------

Nate, who was now fifteen years old, along with Hope, were well dressed as though they were Asgardians as they headed to the throne room following a couple guards. During his visits to train against Hope, Thor had at least bee n considerate enough to bring them some clothes and other amenities that made their training a bit more comfortable, so they hadn't just spent two years with the clothes on their backs, and they'd even had more nice clothes specifically for this day when they were to return to the castle.

Thor, naturally, had chosen to model Nate's current outfit after his own attire, so that if one saw them side-by-side they might be mistaken for brothers, while Hope wore a white dress with the emblem of the Phoenix cut in the front, showing some cleavage. The dress had a relatively short shirt, but she wasn't going to flash her underwear or anything since she wore skin-tight golden body suit under the dress which also had a hole in it in the same Phoenix emblem shape.

Including the sash around her waist, which matched the body suit she wore, Hope was now looking the part of the Phoenix her well. Loki had helped to acquire this outfit, and it had come out very well.. Frankly, hope's outfit was very impractical, it took considerable effort for a normal person to get in and out of, but one of hope's Phoenix powers sustained her, so she never needed to eat, drink or go to the bathroom, so it was easier for her.

When they entered the throne room, Odin, Frigga, Thor and Loki were all present. Loki rolled his eyes a bit at what Nate was wearing, but seemed elated that Hope was wearing the clothes that he'd helped to make for her.

"Loki. It's good to see you." Hope greeted Loki, grinning, as instructed by Nate "The outfit turned out incredible, thank you."

Loki was surprised a moment, but then nodded "I am glad to heat Miss Summers likes it." he answered formally.

"You haven't really come to visit since you both came to Asgard." Odin stated formally "As such important guests, you would have been welcome if you were to visit."

"The sentiment is appreciated, but we came here to train." Hope insisted to the king formally, again following Nate's instructions "Besides, I do not need to eat or drink, so I would not have been the best of guests to one of your feasts. There will be plenty of time to socialize once my pupil is properly trained, though. We are immortal, after all, if you are still interested at that time."

"Oh, certainly." Odin chuckled "Then what brings you here today?"

"We were about to leave Asgard." Hope admitted to Odin "Nate's training is to continue in Olympus for the next three Midgardian years, and after that I will train him for three years in Celestial Heliopolis. I doubt that they will be as stand-offish as you were, so I decided to lay the foundation of his training here. I am grateful for your patience while we were visiting."

"Father, what are these places she speaks of?" Thor asked of Odin.

"I see..." Odin answered to Hope, ignoring Thor's question for now "Well, I hope that you will return again one day. Even if you cannot eat or drink, I'd still like to hold a grand feast in your honor."

Hope nodded in understanding "I am certain that we will meet again." she looked at Thor next "Olympus and Celestial Heliopolis are extra-dimensional kingdoms attached to Midgard, which is home to other beings which, like the Aesir, were worshiped as gods by Midgardians in the past. They've isolated themselves within their own realms in recent millennia."

"Then I wish you well on your journey." Odin answered formally "And when you do come back, you will be welcomed as friends of Asgard." he decided to go this route, because the Phoenix was not an entity that Asgard could afford to have as an enemy, so it was natural to treat her as a friend.

------

Upon returning to Earth, the wormhole that Hope and Nate emerged from was in the sky over Mt Olympus in Greece. Both of them flew out, and Nate followed Hope who could sense the wormhole to Olympus.

Nate had not seen an movies in his previous life, so he could form no mental image for that place for Hope to use to create a wormhole into it, so they had to find the proper entrance. Fortunately, Hope knew what she was doing, and soon used her power and a sheer cliff side they came upon had a portion of it flicker out of existence and a cave appeared, which they flew into, and the rock wall reappeared behind them.

Flying at a downward arrow through the cave, which otherwise seemed perfectly straight, they soon came upon a large chamber with a wormhole in it. They landed and then Nate stepped through the wormhole alone. He could summon Hope to him if he really needed her, but he decided to go it alone for now.

Note that the Asgard Arc was covered in one chapter, but there will be a few chapters for Olympus and Celestial Heliopolis each. I wanted to rush through the Asgard stuff since they'd be training mostly alone during that time, though note that it will be revisited more fully from Thor's Perspective in later Chapters.

Not every chapter in this story will be from the MC's perspective, but he may have larger repurcussions on those around him that could not be shown effectively from the his perspective.
