Chapter 39: Unveiling Truths and Broken Doors

We laid in the center of the bed with Smith cradling me tight. He had

fallen asleep a while ago, but I laid wide awake and restless. I traced

circle patterns on his chest, loving the way his smooth skin felt under

my touch. Everything weighed heavy on my mind.

 Unable to lay in bed for any longer, I swung my legs off the bed

and slipped away. I grabbed my clothing and closed the door behind

me, then dressed and began making a peanut butter and jelly

sandwich.

 Smith's soft breathing sounded through the walls, making me

smile.

 It disappeared soon after I recalled yesterday's events. The

wedding had gone by without a problem, but his mother's wicked face

cut into my mind like a nightmare. And what did she mean he was like

his father? Who? I hadn't wanted to pry into the details of his

childhood, but now my curiosity returned with a vengeance.
