Chapter 58: Tension

I must've been knocked out into an unconscious state, because the next thing I saw after the sex frenzy was daylight and Smith hovering over me in a blue-collared shirt and suit pants.

     He shook me, his hand warm and tender. "Storm's over, for now."

     The sunlight struck my pupils. I groaned and rubbed my eyes. "Why didn't you wake me?"

     His lips curled into a brisk smile. "You looked too beautiful. Sleepy-headed, but stunning nonetheless."

     A yawn stretched my mouth as my relaxed chest opened. If he behaved like this after every fight, maybe we should do it more often. I propped myself up on one elbow. "Have you heard anything?"

     "She's still alive," he announced, his voice thick with emotion. "Probably waiting for us."
