Chapter 3: Curtain Opening

Looking out the window, Reginald still remembered the feeling he felt last night.

The feeling of excitement, the feeling that he was going to find what was missing in his life.

"Reg!" A teacher called, which he glanced over to.

A middle aged man with sharp eyes glared at him, his brown hair with a few grey hairs neatly combed, he looked rather elegant with his suit, but his words just felt like nagging, "What are you doing just looking out the window! Do you know how important the coming exam is!-."

The teacher kept going on, but Reginald was no longer paying attention.

'Haven't you heard of the news?' He thought, remembering the chaos that happened only a month ago.

= "Everyone! We have to fight back! Like those villains know that we ain't to be messed with!" The chief of the town called out, rallying everyone's fighting spirit.

His mother put the spectacles on his face, "Don't let the villains see your face, they will come for revenge if they see you." She smiled, pressing the small button on his specs.

"Will you return?" He softly asked, "You will cook my favourite meal right?"

"Of course," She hugged him tightly, "It's your birthday after all."

'Than why are you hugging me so tightly?' Thanks to his mask, she couldn't see his eyes getting watery, "Y-you promise?"

She didn't say anything, and just broke the hug, "Whatever happens, follow what you feel is right. Alright?"

'She isn't coming back.' He thought while nodding, 'No, there has to be a chance of survival!'

This little spark of hope ignited.

"Good boy. I will go help the town now, remember not to set anything on fire." She rubbed his head, and jogged away.

"Kid! We need to abandon this town!" Someone from his town yelled.

Only for it to be extinguished.

"H-huh?" He didn't understand, "Abandon? Then what about them?" He pointed at the adults going to the frontline to fight.

"They are just making more time for us to escape. Your dad is waiting in the city." The man said, "They know what they signed up for,"

"Can I go grab my bag first?" Before his question was replied, the man just picked him up.

"No can do kiddo, let's go!" He ran, as Reginald watched as blood started to spill in the sky.

'That's right, since when has this town ever been peaceful?' He thought, he wanted to yell out loud how unfair this world is, but he knows better, 'Why can't peace ever exist?'

He watched through his mask as a beam of light was shot, destroying everything in its way. His house was in its way, and got melted too.

He held back his tears, and closed his eyes. =

'Yet none of you look like you care.' He thought, looking back down at his note.

Due to him being from a nearby town, to officially enter the school in the city. He had to pass the exam.

"Mr Dav, why ain't-." The class resumed without his mind present.

The bell rang, and he grabbed his bag. Carrying over his shoulder, he walked out.

Glancing at the window reflection, he looked at his uniform from this school.

Ding.

What sounded like a small bell in his head rang, as his gaze went out the window.

He saw a figure in the distance, on another building across the street. Unsure why, he felt like he had to meet that person.

Bump, bump, bump.

Unconsciously, he had already started running down the stairs.

"Reg! Where you going man? School isn't over!" Someone wanted to grab him, but Reginald bumped into another person instead.

"Student," He quickly took a step back, rubbing his head while looking up, a middle aged looking woman stood there, he noticed her badges.

'Eek!' He thought, bowing down, "Good afternoon mdm!"

"What's the rush?" She raised a brow while adjusting her cap.

"The toilet!" He said, "I got to go, sorry for bumping into you!" He quickly stepped to the side, walking past her.

Cling~

Both of them heard a soft cling sound, feeling as if something pulled their sleeves for a moment, as they glanced at each other.

But Reginald was already running away, as the woman resumed walking.

The figure from across the street, watched all of it unfold.

The wind blew the cloak, revealing a person wearing a windbreaker underneath. Their left hand in the pocket,

"I wonder, what will happen this time." The figure head tilted to the side, "Oh, the previous group had such a preparation. They sure do expect their number to be short." It gave a short chuckle.

"Let's see how this plays out, shall we?"
