Chapter 3: chapter 3

Everyone kept quiet the moment the CEO of Dalgo Holdings stepped into the company.

His alluring and commanding aura spread through the office space.

They all got busy. Asher Miller was a strict boss whose tolerance for idleness was low. He hated it when employees lazy around thereby leaving their job.

His desire for order and competence is well known.

Some of the employees he met greeted him but he ignored them with his cold demeanour.

When he got into his office, he sat down. And unbuttoned his jacket and sat down on the swivel chair.

He had a lot to do. So he turned on his laptop. After working for several minutes, he stopped. He needed to check out something on a file.

His eyes darted across the table. The file was supposed to be on his table, for his perusal.

Why can't these people do their damn job without acting like silly imbeciles. He was furious.

He picked up his phone and dialled his P.A

"Get yourself into my office this minute."

He slammed the telephone as he ended the call.

The door opened and his P.A walked in. She was almost fidgeting.

"Why is the file not ready? I told you to inform Helen to get it ready before the close of work yesterday," he spat.

His P.A stared at him in shock. "S Sir, you fired Helen yesterday. The new Secretary is yet to arrive," she stuttered.

Asher glared at her. He remembered now. He had fired the previous Secretary for gross misconduct and incompetence.

"And the new secretary is yet to arrive. Am I right?"

The P.A nodded. "Yes, boss."

Asher clenched his jaw, he managed to contain his anger. " She must be silly. It's past eight and that clown is yet to arrive. Why do you keep employing fools to work for me? I do not think she is ready to work."

"Sir."

"Shut the hell up. I am not done talking. Once she arrives, bring her in. Now get out," he barked.

The P.A quickly left as fast as her legs could carry her.

Asher loosened his tie. He was hot with anger.

"Bunch of crazy fools," he muttered under his breath. He was starting to lose his patience.

Sally stepped into the office premises, she walked straight to the receptionist.

"Good day ma'am, I am the new secretary," Sally greeted as she broke into sweat.

The receptionist looked up from her laptop and stared at Sally wide eyed.

This made Sally nervous. Was there something on her dress? Is there something on her face?

She remembered the look the security personnel gave her when she came in.

Weird though.

The receptionist managed a smile. "You must be Sally Peters. You're welcome to this establishment. That's the boss P.A over there, she'll give you directions."

"Thank you," Sally said.

She walked to the P.A who was looking through a file.

Sally hoped silently that her job was still available. She was scared.

"Good day, I am Sally Peters," she said.

The P.A looked up. " Miss Sally, what kept you. You're late. And the boss is aware."

Sally swallowed hard. Shit, not again.

"I am so sorry. My car broke down."

She had to say something.

The P.A sighed. "That the CEO's. He'd like to have a word with you."

Sally shivered. Then she walked to his office. She knocked.

"Come in," a voice said.

She turned the door knob and stepped into the office, the cool air from the air conditioning filled the office.

"Who are you?," he asked her as he ran his eyes through her.

Sally was caught off guard by his cold response.

Yea, what she was expecting. A welcome party?

She found her voice as she spoke. "I am Sally Peters. The new secretary."

He leaned back on his chair as his icy look pierced through her like a sword.

"Such disregard for working hours. First day at work and you're late," he spat.

"I am sorry. It won't happen again," she pleaded.

"Yea, it won't happen again because you're fired!"

"Please, I beg of you. I will do better," she pleaded.

Her knees buckled. It was too much to bear. She was dejected.

This can't be happening to her.

Why all these?

"You fool, get out of my premises right now or you'll be sorry you showed up."

Tears welled up her eyes as she hurriedly walked out of the office.

She passed the P.A and the receptionist who were astounded to see her crying as she walked pass.

In pain, Sally walked into a coffee shop. She sat down in an obscure corner. And cried out her eyes.

The pain dug deep into her heart. She was this close to getting a job and she lost it again.

What will become of her and Luke. They needed the money to run their own expenses. For how long will she continue to depend on May.

Her phone rang, it was May. She was in no mood to answer.

A moment of quietness was all she needed to clear her head.

It kept ringing and it was starting to draw attention to her. So she switched off her phone.

She ordered coffee not like she was going to drink it.

She wiped out her tears with her handkerchief. And stopped crying.

This particular loss shattered her.

She lost two jobs in a month!

Sally looked around, most of the customers seemed to be workers who had come out for lunch.

It must be noon already. Then it dawned on her that she had sat in the coffee shop for a long time.

She couldn't bring herself to go home and break the bad news to May and Luke.

She switched on her phone to check the time. As soon as her phone turned on, a call came through.

She checked the caller ID, it was an unknown number.

May must be trying hard to reach her. She thought.

She quickly answered.

"Hello Miss Sally. It's Mrs. Andrew, the P.A from Dalgo Holdings."

Sally sat up straight as she gripped her phone tighter to her ears.

What could they possibly want from her?
