Chapter 27: Saving One, Losing Another

"H-help me, please," Klein weakly mumbled to him in desperation. His eyes no longer had life in them and he seemed to be losing consciousness but he was determined that Alex could help him.

"What do you want me to do for you?" Alex asked him.

"I-I don't want to die yet," he replied after some time of gathering his leftover energy.

"I'm not a God so I can't save you," Alex replied and tried to walk away but Klein was firmly holding him. "What the hell do you want?" Alex grunted. Because of his voice, the monsters began to go around the place.

"B-becareful. Those monsters can't see but their ears are quite effective, they can pick even the tiniest sounds," Klein told them. After talking, he closed his eyes as tears formed in them. "We acted on impulse and we ended up making mistakes that led to some of us dying. I believe you can help me, I don't want to die like them, please."

"I am no God!" Alex repeated but Klein wouldn't let go.

He held on tightly to Alex's leg and didn't want to let go. "I don't care how you do it, but please..." he said and paused as he coughed out a mouthful of blood which attracted the monsters to where they were but Alex was fast enough to carry Klein and flee from that place on time. Getting to a farther distance, Alex dropped Klein on the floor and glanced at the monsters.

'That was close' He thought in his head with a surprised look on his face.

"Can you help him?" Raphael suddenly whispered to him.

"I can't," Alex replied.

"But why? You can help him by doing the same thing you did to me," Raphael stated.

"I wasn't the one who did it, besides, I'm not sure if it'll work again," Alex replied.

"But we can try," Raphael insisted. "If you turn him into a demon, he'll be indebted to you and will do anything you wish," he added.

Alex glanced at him and then turned to Klein, he was somewhat right about turning Klein into a demon but he was not sure if Arthur would agree.

"Your friend is actually right, I like his idea," Arthur suddenly said to him. "But this will be the last time I'll do it because it is energy-consuming and I don't have much left in me to keep turning weak humans into demons," he added.

'I don't want to turn him into a demon' Alex inwardly replied to Arthur.

"But why?" Arthur asked him.

'I don't want many people around me, I'm content with just this one' Alex replied, referring to Raphael.

"No one is asking you to be around so many people but mind you in the future, you will need these so many people to be next to you. What would you do then?" Arthur asked him. "Whatever, I'm doing this!"

"Wait—" Before Alex could say something, his eyes closed and his head fell. Some seconds later, he reopened his eyes and raised his head. Turning to Raphael he spoke. "Your friend won't be happy about this but don't worry, with time, he'll definitely get used to the feeling of having so many demon servants around him."

"Am I also one?" Raphael asked with a sad look on his face.

"I don't know, it's up to him to decide," Arthur replied with a shrug. Raphael sighed and looked elsewhere, he just didn't want to assume things for himself so he'll have to ask Alex about it and hear it directly from his mouth. The thought of also being just a servant frightened him. "You'll have to keep watch until I am done with the process," Arthur said to him.

Raising his head to look at him, Raphael saw that Arthur had already placed his hand on Klein's forehead and that he was about to start.

"Okay," he replied.

Arthur turned to Klein and spoke. "This is the decision you made, it was done willingly and no one forced you into this. If you decide to kill yourself later on, I'm sorry but that won't be possible unless he permits you to do so, do you understand?" He asked Klein.

"I do," Klein replied weakly with his eyes closed.

"Hmmm," Arthur mumbled and began. As soon as the light faded away, Klein screamed, attracting the monsters to their side.

Raphael was ready for action and so as soon as the monsters began to make their way towards them, he ran forward to meet them.

"Stop!" He yelled out to the first monster and it abruptly stopped moving. "Blow up!" He muttered and the monster exploded.

"That's some crazy power he got but he'll have a great time dealing with the others," Arthur mumbled while watching Raphael.

Just like Arthur had speculated, the second monster rushed at Raphael and began to attack him restlessly, it didn't leave him any chance to fight back.

"Stop!" Raphael yelled while running away from the monster. The monster stopped but after some seconds, it broke free from the spell and began to attack him again. ' I don't know how the demon powers work ' He thought while dodging the monster's attacks.

"I see you aren't able to use your demon powers yet," Arthur said aloud to Raphael from where he was. One of the monsters heard his voice and diverted in his direction. "Hey, have you forgotten your job?" He asked Raphael who hissed and began to chase after the monster, ignoring the one chasing him.

"Blow up!" He yelled to the monster and its two arms exploded. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to stop it from moving, and as it ran, two sets of arms began to grow almost immediately. "The hell!" Raphael grunted and increased his pace. The monster was fast, he couldn't keep up with the pace even with his newly added strength.

As the monster neared Arthur, he scoffed and stretched out his left arm. A faint beam of light began to form on it until it was large enough to create a huge impact. "Die!" He muttered and the large beam of light left his palm, like the speed of a thunderbolt, it made its way to the target and the moment it drove itself into the monster, a loud sound echoed in the hall followed by a blood-rain.

Seeing how the monster exploded, Raphael stopped and his eyes widened. "He's strong," he mumbled to himself.

"I've created a big mess right now. Kid, you better be ready to fight!" He heard Arthur speaking to him and when he came back to his senses, he saw that all the monsters were now all over the place.

"Teach me how to use my new powers," he requested.

"You can feel the energy flowing inside of you right? Imagine these energies flowing to your arms, from your arms down to your palms, and then imagine them leaving your palms," Arthur replied.

"Got it!" Raphael replied and closed his eyes to do exactly what Arthur told him. But just as he closed his eyes, he was unaware that a monster had gotten behind him.

"Behind you!" Arthur yelled but it was too late as the monster drove its sharp arm into Raphael's back. The monster's arm dipped into Raphael's body and it came out from the front.

Raphael taken by surprise tried to use his ability but the monster forcefully retracted its arm causing him to gag in shock.

"Damn it!" Arthur muttered as he watched what was going on. While he was still staring at Raphael, his eyes suddenly began to close gradually. "What? How is this possible—" Just as he completed his statement, his eyes finally closed and his head fell. Reopening his eyes again, Alex saw Raphael falling and he rushed over and caught him immediately.

The monster seeing another prey came again to attack Alex from behind but the moment it touched him, his eyes began to glow red. The monster felt Alex's killing intent and the aura around him that it wanted to let loose and run for safety but for some reason, it could not remove its arm from Alex's body.

"Die," Alex mumbled to the monster without turning to look at it. It was a whisper, almost like the voice of an angel. The monster gently closed its eyes as if completely placed under a spell and in no time, the arm that it placed on Alex began to decay. At first, it was spreading very slowly but soon, it began to spread rapidly until it got to the monster's chest which caused it to let out an excruciating scream of pain.

As the monster yelled, the remaining parts of the body were consumed causing the entire body to decay in a matter of seconds.
