Chapter 99: Allowance
During the drive back home, I ended up sitting on Charlotte's lap instead while Lisa drove us home. It was then that I realized that sitting on Lisa's thighs were a bit more comfortable than Charlotte, however it felt a lot warmed being in Charlotte's embrace. I would've thought that we would sit at the back seats this time, but Charlotte insisted on trying it.
Eventually though, we arrived back home as Lisa closes the door behind us.
"Aaah~ Sorry about that Shiro." For some reason, Lisa's apologizing to me? She did look a bit down after the burger she ate, but I'm still confused.
"Don't worry, Lisa." Charlotte, sensing my confusion, speaks up to Lisa.
"Ah, but even still... Oh!" Suddenly, Lisa digs into her bag, pulling out a wallet before pulling out several pieces of paper out towards me. "Shiro, take it."
"Huh?"
"Don't worry. I was going to use this money to buy the clothes, but since Charlotte bought everything... So think of this like an allowance."
"Allowance?"
"Like pocket change."
"Pocket... Change?" I'm so confused.
"It's just money you get every no and again." Charlotte chimes in. It did help to clarify what this money meant, but-
"But why?" I couldn't help but ask as I gingerly take the money from Lisa.
"Well you don't get paid for your work like we do, so I'll chip in occasionally and give you money." Lisa says with a smile, packing away her things.
"But what am I supposed to do with this?" I say while looking over the money in my hands. They're not like the coins that Charlotte uses... But this is used to buy things, right?
"You can do whatever you like with it. Save it up, or buy some cute clothes. Whatever you like. Ah, but this money can only be spent in this world. You'll have to get it exchanged if you want to use it in the other world."
I'm still lost... Wait. If I can use this however I want, then maybe I can buy Charlotte something? But she already has a lot of this money, so I'm not too sure. That said, I feel like I need to repay her for all the things she got me.
"Well, like Lisa said, you can just save it until you find something you like, okay?"
"Nn."
I end up leaving it at that as I put the money into one of the pockets in the hoodie I'm wearing.
"Oh! Here." it was then that Lisa went into a drawer before pulling out what looked to be a wallet, similar to what Lisa used just before. "You can use this for now. It's a bit torn, but you won't be using any cards, so this'll do."
"Th-thank you." I take it before opening it up before placing the money I just got inside. Just like Lisa said, some places on the wallet appear to be broken.
"Hah~ If I knew you'd be doing this I would've gotten Shiro a proper wallet or a purse."
"Fufu~ Well then that can be for your next date then! Of course I'll stay home this time."
"Going on a date just for a wallet... What a waste of gas. I'll do it another time."
"Mkay~ Oh, but how's your wound holding up, Charlotte?"
"Still a bit stiff. But if it's just walking around and simple things like this, I'm alright." Charlotte says before going into the fridge, taking out two blood packs. Wait, she's drinking two?
The last time I saw her drinking two was during that fight with that woman at the park. But I don't think I saw any blood at the mall. Wait, Charlotte did actually drink blood there with the hot chocolate, so then why is she drinking blood now? I can't help but be a bit concerned as I watch her chug down one of the packs in an instant.
"Ahh~ How glad I am to not be a vampire, haha." Lisa however looks amused as she snacks on some of the left over food she brought back with us.
"What do you mean?" I end up asking Lisa while Charlotte begins to crack open the second blood pack.
"Well, there was a lot of people in the mall we went to, right? For Charlotte, with that many people. It can be quite unbearable, even if no blood is spilled. It's why blood drinks are available in places like that."
"So Charlotte could smell all those people?"
"You can put it that way, yeah. But even someone like me can smell all of those people as well."
Huh? Wait, so Lisa also has the same problem? Then why isn't she drinking blood?
"Unlike wolves like me, vampires see humans and even demi-humans as prey. As for me it's more of a survival thing, being able to figure out my surrounding better. For Charlotte it's more for hunting."
"She's right." Charlotte breaks into the conversation whilst putting the now empty blood packs into the recycling bin. "In my eyes, the people around us back in the mall were like the burger that Lisa was eating."
"Mhmm! Yeah, like that."
"So then... Wouldn't I also be seen as food?"
"I... Well..." Charlotte's face ends up going red at my question, looking be to struggling to find the words.
"Shiro, don't worry about it." But it was Lisa who spoke up for Charlotte as she pats me on the head. "Charlotte can't help it, but I guarantee you that she doesn't see you as food."
"Thanks, Lisa..."
"No problem~"
So I'm not seen as food, or would it be that Charlotte doesn't want to see me as food? I don't like how I made Charlotte uncomfortable, but I don't mind it at all.
"I want to learn as much as I can about Charlotte, so I don't mind at all."
"Shiro..."
"Fufu. You're a sweet girl, Shiro." Lisa once again pats me on the head as it looks like Charlotte has calmed down now, allowing me to relax once more.
