As Baiyi had stated before, Gouve was a place to experience, but it was not a place to stay.
It was dangerous to stay in Gouve. This was not because of the appearance of wild animals or enemy tribes—which are all problems that can be solved with a certain degree of Fist Diplomacy—It was because of the danger that the natural disasters there posed; one could not solve natural disasters with their fists, after all. Natural threats were always more mysterious and complicated than threats that had identifiable causes.
The floating islands at the lowest altitudes always had to brace themselves for tsunamis and tropical storms, while the islands way above had to brace themselves for polar winds and skin-biting winters—such a beautiful realm... not! These were the struggles that the inhabitants of Gouve had to go through all the time.
And then a wild Rathian had appeared! Unsheath your switch ax or gunlance or heavy bowguns or that puny toothpick you called long sword! It’s time…to hunt! Dum dum dum dum! Dum dum dum duuum, dum dum dum! Dum dum duuum, dum dum dum dum duuuuum! (you know, that heroic Monster Hunter theme? This is the best lyrics I could find)
Seriously though why do my cousins always insist on calling the long swords “the greatest weapon ever, TM-C-R?”
I almost always use a switch ax. I tried using a bow for ranged (I love them in real life) but it seems like I’m better with heavier hits--like a heavy bowgun. Maybe it’s because I’m slow on my fingers, and the apparent “slowness” of these weapons make me feel like I’ve still got some time!
Though on the rare occasions when I play online, I would switch to the hunting horn. Probably not a popular weapon choice, I reckon! But I…uh, am not very confident with my skills in the online arena at all, so I usually hand out supportive attacks and boosts rather than going in for the kill! Sometimes I think I’m just a human-sized palico, man. My cousin would then up the comparison a bit and boasted that his palicos would dealt more damage than I ever could!
What’s your favorite Monster Hunter weapon type? Or rather, what’s your main?
