His legacy had been meant for Ling Lan to begin with — he had only been worried that the military would confiscate it and refuse to hand it over to Ling Lan.

Also, as an elaboration on the footnotes issue since many people are still sceptical despite my reassurances ... if you read on a web browser, you will see that the footnotes are not part of the main text. Instead, they are in little pop-up boxes which only show up when you click on a numbered button by whichever phrase they are tagged to. In the apps, this feature is not implemented yet, so you see the footnotes as appended to the main body of the text at the end of the chapter. However, no matter how they are displayed, they do not add anything to the word count -- readers pay the same price no matter if they read on a browser or the apps. If you still do not trust me, just do a word count check on your own and compare it against the pricing scheme to see.
