Chapter 108: The shadow Knight .

Below the Generals operated a cadre of Captains, each sworn to serve a specific commander's style. They were the blades of the Serpent Sect, cutting swiftly where generals pointed.

Under Malzaryn's command thrived:

Captain Rivek, the Ashen Coil: A lean figure with pale eyes, he directed skirmishers and ambushers. Rivek tested recruits by making them chase his silent steps through moonlit woods. His loyalty to Malzaryn was absolute; he viewed warfare as a dance of shifting shadows.

Beneath Ivrineh's silent banner:

Captain Surien, the Pale Asp: Surien specialized in infiltration teams who slipped past sentries without leaving footprints. She wore soft leather boots and favored curved daggers. Her voice was rarely heard; a mere nod dispatched whole squads into enemy lines. She admired Ivrineh's unspoken language, striving to emulate that quiet mastery.

For Yashever's cunning operations:

Captain Vesarl, the Bitter Thorn: Vesarl oversaw poison-dagger wielders and saboteurs. He preferred swift, lethal strikes at supply wagons or guard posts. Before dawn raids, he distributed small vials of hallucinogenic fumes to confuse foes. Vesarl's men trusted his unsettling grin—when he smiled, it meant a plan had taken shape.

Beyond the core leadership, the Serpents ruled through a network of Clan Leaders—minor powers coerced or enticed into the Sect's influence:

Clan Leader Dhazul of the Iron Strife Clan: A gruff warlord turned reluctant ally, Dhazul provided hardened warriors in return for Serpent gold. He doubted the Elders' motives but feared their wrath more than he questioned their orders.

Clan Leader Velsa of the Jade Reed Clan: Velsa's people cultivated rare herbs and sold them to Yashever's alchemists. She balanced profit and survival, knowing one misstep could invite Serpent displeasure.

Clan Leader Harrek of the Crimson Scale Clan: Harrek led raiders who excelled in brute force assaults. He admired Malzaryn's cunning but found subtlety tiresome. Still, he complied, drawn by the promise of spoils from conquered lands.

This hierarchical web extended the Serpents' reach far and wide. Everyone knew their place, their duty. Yet, rumors persisted of a more mysterious actor—the "Shadow Enemy" that neither wore Serpent colors nor served Ember ideals. In hushed corridors, they whispered that a third force watched the unfolding conflict with predatory patience, waiting to exploit weaknesses on either side.
