Chapter 28: Chapter 28: What am I, then? A Tyranitar?

Lillie lay on the soft bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

She loved Pokémon so much—so why couldn't she interact with them?

She knew the root of her condition: as a child, she'd been attacked by a Pokémon.

But why, even after so many years, did that event still have such a profound effect on her?

Lillie had pondered this question countless times, but she could never find an answer.

The vibration of her phone by her pillow pulled her back from her thoughts. She picked it up and saw a notification:

"Your favorite content creator [I'm Not Pidgeotto] uploaded a new video an hour ago."

Lillie leapt out of bed immediately. That Pidgeotto finally remembered to update!

Since she loved Pokémon but couldn't interact with them, Lillie often indulged in being a "virtual Trainer" and "virtual Breeder" online.

One of her favorite video creators was a food content maker called [I'm Not Pidgeotto], nicknamed "Pidgeotto Master" by fans due to his habit of rarely updating.

For a veteran viewer like Lillie, most food, daily Pokémon care, or even battle-related videos had become monotonous.

But Pidgeotto Master's videos were different. Unique dishes, humorous banter with his cameraman, and, most importantly, the part Lillie loved most—the segments featuring his Snivy eating meals—were always a delight.

Two weeks ago, he even found an adorable Eevee, and Lillie was instantly captivated by the sweet and well-behaved little Pokémon in its debut video.

Since that episode, Pidgeotto Master's videos had become increasingly popular.

Like this one—posted just an hour ago, and it already had over 100,000 views.

Lillie clicked on the video, hoping to heal her low spirits with some delicious food content.

But the first scene in the video took her by surprise.

...

The vast, expansive lake glistened. Rising from its waters was a Milotic, breathtakingly beautiful as sunlight danced upon its scales.

This moment seemed to signal that this episode would be different from the usual fare.

However, the comments on the screen were rather peculiar:

"Wishing for success in my college entrance exams this year."

"Wishing my starter Pokémon will be a Beldum."

"Wishing I'll qualify for the Lily of the Valley Conference this year."

"Wishing my Gardevoir could learn Return (lol)."

Amused, Lillie decided to join in: "Wishing I can overcome my fear of Pokémon this year."

After the stunning opening, Pidgeotto Master's clear voice sounded in the video.

"Hello, my dear Pidgeys! Welcome to a brand-new series. This is an Eevee travel vlog, and today, we're at the Miranda Mountains' Pear Harvest Festival."

"This episode will feature a lot of first-person footage from Eevee's perspective. If you're prone to motion sickness, please be prepared!"

As always, Pidgeotto Master did not appear on camera. Instead, the video showcased scenic footage of Sylphmere Lake from inside a bus.

Fans were used to this by now, and the comments quickly shifted to other topics.

"Miranda Mountains! So Pidgeotto Master is from Riverhaven. Now we know where to send those razor-sharp feathers! (lol)"

"Yay! More Eevee content. My kid loves it. But what does 'first-person perspective' mean?"

Lillie was also curious about what "Eevee's first-person perspective" entailed. Holding onto this question, she continued watching.

...

The scenes before entering the forest were brief, featuring staff explaining the rules and a hilarious segment of "even Growlithe would shake its head."

Then, Lillie finally understood what "Eevee's first-person perspective" meant.

The screen suddenly lowered, making everything around appear towering. Even the grass that barely reached an ankle was now tall enough to obscure the view.

The shift in perspective made Lillie feel like she had entered Eevee's world.

So this is what it's like from Eevee's perspective? she marveled. Honestly, this immersive experience was so fresh and unique!

Lillie lay on her stomach, her pale legs swinging back and forth. Before she realized it, she was completely engrossed in Eevee's world.

It felt as if she had become an Eevee—nuzzling with Pachirisu, reprimanding a sneaky Emolga, nimbly climbing a tree to pluck berries, and then leaping down into Pidgeotto Master's arms.

Wait a second—into Pidgeotto Master's arms?

Lillie suddenly felt like she'd caught a glimpse of something unusual in a single frame of the video. Hurriedly, she rewound and slowed it down.

Sure enough, during Eevee's leap from the Oran Berry tree, just before the screen turned black, there was a clear, top-down view of Pidgeotto Master's face!

Quickly, Lillie paused and took a screenshot.

...

The image showed a young man with short, neat black hair. His expression was one of concern, yet his handsome features couldn't be hidden.

Lillie chuckled. Pidgeotto Master often joked that he didn't appear on camera because his "plain looks might affect viewers' appetites."

This is plain? Is Valoria region full of supermodels?

She wasn't the only one who noticed. The comments exploded:

"Pause achieved!"

"Everyone, screenshot this before Pidgeotto Master realizes he accidentally revealed his face!"

"Didn't he say he wasn't much to look at? What am I, then? A Tyranitar?"

"?? Don't compare yourself to my Sandstorm King! You're more like a Caterpie."

"LOL, unremarkable Pidgeotto Master."

"Sorry, I was too stunned to react. Now I can't help but ask—what's the end of the universe? What's the meaning of life?"

"I wish I were Pidgeotto Master's Growlithe. But alas, I'm neither a majestic Growlithe nor an adorable Eevee. I'm just a little Rattata in the sewer."

The creative and chaotic Valorian comments made Lillie laugh. She saved the screenshot of the frame and eagerly continued watching.

...

The video transitioned to Pidgeotto Master and Eevee enjoying lunch, still filmed from Eevee's perspective.

As the food disappeared bite by bite, accompanied by Eevee's satisfying chewing sounds, Lillie's mouth watered despite not being able to smell the food.

I wish I could taste Pidgeotto Master's cooking, she thought, swallowing hard as her stomach rumbled despite having eaten recently.

She grabbed a bag of chips from her bedside table and munched on them while continuing to watch.

The fun interactions between Pidgeotto Master and the Pachirisu gang, the heartwarming kindness of a wild Emolga, and the vivid world from Eevee's perspective all felt so real.

It wasn't until the video faded to black after Pidgeotto Master and Eevee counted their harvest that Lillie realized the 30-minute video had flown by.

Satisfied yet longing for more, Lillie put down her phone. A bold idea suddenly formed in her mind.

Maybe this Eevee… could cure my fear of Pokémon.
