Marvin woke up to a strong dump of magic in his system. He looked around himself and found a man in a commander's uniform staring at him with worried eyes.
"Are you alright boy?", the commander asked, his hand was still lying on top of Marvin's chest, slowly transferring magic into his blood. For the first time in six months Marvin felt warm.
"Who is he? C'mon commander tell us!", a girl's voice came from the background, Marvin tried to turn his face to look at the others standing in the room but failed as his neck jolted with pain.
"It's fine, take it easy for now", the commander said and turned his head to the others.
"You two are dismissed, and keep your mouths shut. Nobody should hear about this—"
"Atleast tell us if he is dangerous or not, did we make a mistake commander?"
Marvin's entire body started shaking as soon as he heard those words. It wasn't the words that made him shiver but the person who spoke them. Marvin could recognise that voice even in his sleep, that crisp and sweet voice of James Cartland.
Marvin went extremely quite, the commander was looking at him with a guilty look which made Marvin want to punch him in the face. If this commander was aware of the rules then why in the world was he in the same room as James Cartland. 'Was he also the one who had bought him from the forest, did he remember Marvin, were his memories coming back?—' Marvin stopped his wild train of thoughts and slightly shook his head towards the commander.
The commander understood his signal and told the students to go back to their petroling duties and that the boy they had found was not a threat at all.
Once they were gone, or once he was gone, Marvin slowly lifted himself and sat on the hard sofa. Even though the sofa was nothing extraordinary, but to Marvin who had been stuck inside the forest for six months, even the hard sofa cushions felt as soft as feathers.
"I am so sorry Lord Kieth, forgive me but it was the Cartland boy and his girlfriend who found you at the entrance of the forest, but he still has no idea about your identity.", the commander said with his eyes on the floor.
Marvin sighed, "Well of course he doesn't remember, he is not supposed to remember." , he said, shielding the sadness from his words.
"I will contact the headquarters about your arrival, they will take better care of you and I am sure your brother is worried about your well-being as well. You were gone for quite a while."
Marvin just nodded his head and layed back on the sofa.
"If you don't mind me asking my Lord, can you tell me if you found the swordsmith's lair?",the commander asked trying his best to make it sound nonchalant.
Marvin gave the man a cold look as he replied, "That is for the Ministry to hear commander, I don't take orders from you."
"Oh ofcourse, yes ,yes. I will— I will call the head quarters, I am sorry", the commander stuttered and left Marvin alone in the gloomy and moulding office.
Marvin wanted to see James again. He knew that James would probably look at him with the eyes of a stranger but that was more than enough for Marvin to feel better.
Something is always better than nothing, James's voice told him in his head, he had said that to Marvin when they were both locked in a dark room, looking for an exit, back when James remembered him.
Back when James loved him.
