The dinner went fairly smoothly. With Laurent's permission to cut her hair and delicious food in front of her, their daughter forgot about Dave's previous harshness and was all smiles throughout the meal.
As the meal was nearing its end, the little girl eagerly invited Laurent again.
"Mom, can you have dinner with me again tomorrow night?"
What the little girl really had in mind was that if she saw her mother tomorrow night, they could go get her hair cut.
Laurent took a napkin and wiped the sauce off the corner of her daughter's mouth, then gently answered her.
"Mommy has to go to Aunt Marylin's tomorrow, so I can't have dinner with you."
Before the little girl could respond, Dave, who was sitting opposite them, furrowed his brows and asked,
"Why are you going there?"
Laurent pretended not to hear him and continued talking to her daughter.
