Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Shadows on the Horizon

The northern border was scarily silent as Aveline and her small group approached. The air was filled with smoke from the attack and the scent seemed awful, and the ground was marked by the aftermath of the attack. Broken branches hung like rough claws, and deep claws in the ground marked where the battle had occurred.

Aveline stopped at the edge of the destruction, her sharp eyes checking the scene. The Shadow Council's emblem still burned into a torn piece of cloth, flew weakly with the movement of the breeze. Her wolves moved cautiously around her with their senses increased.

"This isn't just a warning," she said with her voice steady but low. "This is a message. They want us to see what they're capable of."
