Chapter 22: The woman's taunt

Amelia's tears had finally lulled her to sleep. Her body was curled up on the bed, her pillow damp from crying. The night was silent except for her soft breathing. The pain in her chest eased as exhaustion took over.

The morning light seeped through the curtains, warm and soft, but something felt different. Amelia stirred, her body shifting slightly, and that's when she felt it. Arms were wrapped around her, strong and firm. Her eyes shot open, confusion and panic rushing through her.

She turned her head slowly, her heart pounding. It was Enzo. He was there, lying next to her, his face calm, his breath steady. His arm draped over her like it belonged there.

Amelia froze, her breath caught in her throat. Why was he here? How long had he been there? She tried to move, to slide out from under his hold, but his grip tightened immediately.

"Stay still," his deep voice warned, low and commanding. "Or you'll regret it."
