Chapter 42: The Military Talent of the Wolf King
Having swiftly finished the food before me, I picked up a bottle of drink and bid farewell to Juliere. It was evident that this demoness had no intention of seeking out my rather unreliable companions. As for the incident in the hotel room, I had no plans to inform the customer service department for the time being; I thought to myself that delaying it would be preferable. The Wolf King's room was significantly larger than mine, mirroring the luxurious business suite occupied by Lilith.
Upon my arrival, I found Jack, Hachi, Lilith, Romia, and Melinda already present. The Wolf King greeted me with a relaxed smile and said, "Wang Lin, you have the map card for Devil's Island, don't you?" I nodded and replied, "Yes, the hotel provided me with three regular cards upon check-in."
"Excellent! Let us begin plotting the route for this mission!" True to his background as a regular soldier, the Wolf King swiftly outlined a detailed path on the map. "We are all aware of the giant spider monsters' locations, and they are relatively easy to handle. Currently, three of us possess first-tier legion treasures…"
I interjected, casually tossing the red rune stone I obtained from Snook to Lilith, adding, "I also have a rune stone here, bringing our total to four with first-tier legion treasures!"
The Wolf King flashed a knowing smile at the two of us and continued, "So, with four individuals holding first-tier legion treasures, the giant spider monsters should pose no issue for us. The real concern now is whether their numbers are sufficient for us to defeat!"
"I suggest we make the giant spiders our primary target, first replenishing our troop count with the four legion cards, which will greatly benefit our subsequent missions!" I nodded in agreement, and both Hachi and Jack echoed their approval.
Seeing that he had garnered everyone's consent, the Wolf King then said, "The Night Witches are widely distributed across Devil's Island; they can be found almost everywhere. In addition to their wings, which are quite bothersome and complicate our task, they are also impervious to modern weaponry. Most of us have acquired spiritual energy, so dealing with them should not be problematic. I believe there's no need to specifically hunt them down; we can eliminate any encountered Night Witches during our other missions. If anyone ends up with insufficient achievements, we can supplement that later."
"The cave hellhounds are situated in the southern mountain region of Devil's Island, with a relatively fixed location. I propose that after dealing with the giant spiders, we focus on them next. Following that will be the swamp dragons."
"As for the twenty lightning birds and the five little demon hunters…" The Wolf King spread his hands in resignation. "I have yet to devise any plans. The lightning birds are exceedingly swift, and like the Night Witches, they are immune to modern weaponry; I can't think of a way to eliminate them at present. The combat strength of the little demon hunters is likely greater than ours combined, making the task of taking down five each quite daunting. We can revisit these two tasks later!"
The Wolf King's thorough analysis of our objectives made everyone feel optimistic about the plan. As for the lightning birds and little demon hunters, no one had any feasible strategies. Though I had acquired a new secret power, I was reluctant to disclose it at this moment. The meeting had reached its conclusion, leaving only the question of when to set out.
With just ten days to go, it seemed prudent to depart soon. We agreed to gather in the hotel lobby after purchasing some essential supplies in half an hour. My suggestion was met with unanimous agreement, and I rose to leave the Wolf King's room, hearing the footsteps of Lilith following closely behind me.
"Thank you for giving me this rune stone!" she said.
"There's no need for thanks. It was originally Snook's property, and I already possess another one. Keeping one first-tier legion treasure is sufficient; having more is unnecessary."
"Still, I appreciate it. You must understand this is the first treasure I have acquired since arriving on Devil's Island, and I want enough power to protect myself!"
"Oh?" I suddenly halted, a new idea springing to mind! Jack, Hachi, and the Wolf King were unreliable; if Lilith could, in some capacity, stand by my side, then granting her power might save my life in the future!
I pondered for a moment before saying to Lilith, "Let's head to your room first!" Instantly, her cheeks flushed, and she silently led the way. Once we entered her room, I noticed traces of last night's wild passion still lingering on her bed, stirring feelings of impulse within me.
Lilith softly said, "We can depart in half an hour; shall we begin now?"
"Yes, of course, but half an hour should suffice! Wait… I didn't mean for you to take off your clothes!"
Lilith halted, her hands unfastening her garment, her bright blue eyes filled with confusion. I casually pulled out a contract card and said, "This is the Saint Elusis Contract Card, which can be used to control soul beasts. I believe you will find it quite useful. Half an hour should be enough time for you to tame that lightning soul."
Joy illuminated Lilith's face, and under my guidance, she bit her finger and smeared her blood over the lightning soul contract card.
In an instant, a magical circle appeared, enveloping her within. Drawing from my prior experience of taming the Void Claw, I already knew that the Book of Demons would not work within this magical circle. Thus, I had already cast a divine shield upon Lilith.
Having mastered the skills of the Holy Light Beetle, I could not only conjure a protective divine shield for myself but could also bestow the same defense upon others. The duration of the divine shield depends on the power I infuse into it; Platinum Glory would minimize the energy expenditure for this skill. The divine shield I placed on Lilith would be sufficient for her to maintain for fifteen minutes, ample time for her to tame the lightning soul.
Within the magical circle appeared a spherical lightning bolt with a tail. Observing the energy surging within, I deduced that the destructive potential of the lightning spirit might surpass that of the Void Claw, though this soul beast lacked the latter's elusive and formless sharpness.
Lilith gathered the Holy Light around her and appeared undaunted. As she lunged toward the lightning spirit at my urging, the soul beast became enraged.
