Chapter 41: The Contract Card of Saint Elusive Script

The Contract Card of Saint Elusive Script is a Level Four Summoning Card that allows the summoner to call forth a Void Claw and bind it to a contract. To succeed, one must defeat the summoned Void Claw within a magical circle; failure to do so results in being killed by the summoned soul beast. The four cards left behind by Snook are all such contract cards, each corresponding to different entities: Thunder Spirit, Cloud Shape, and Wind Tooth, each possessing unique powers. However, only the Void Claw is a Level Four card, while the others are Level Three. The soul beast is formless and intangible, making it the most common type among the spells of Saint Elusive Script.

It puzzled me that Snook had not utilized these contract cards; could these soul beasts pose significant harm to him? I was perplexed by this thought, but I set it aside, slapping the Saint Elusive Script Contract Card into my palm and biting my fingertip to spill blood onto it. Instantly, an extraordinary magical circle formed around my body, and a swirl of formless black mist emerged from the void, encircling me.

So, this is the Void Claw? Upon testing, I discovered that within the confines of this magical circle, the Book of Demons could not be summoned, meaning I was unable to wield any weapons. The Holy Light Beetle I always wore had also lost its efficacy. Fortunately, Platinum Glory and the unnamed martial arts methods remained operational. According to the instructions on the Contract Card, as long as I pressed the bloodstained card against the Void Claw, I could subdue it. After a moment's hesitation, I tentatively unleashed a move from the Cave Sky Soothing Palm technique.

I remained still, but the black mist of the Void Claw did not. Upon executing my technique, the shadowy soul beast immediately pivoted, emitting a mournful wail. In an instant, I felt a surge of danger; I had no time to complete my technique and hurriedly dodged to the side. Five invisible blades instantly sliced deep grooves into the floor, which was of high quality, and the wallpaper was utterly destroyed by the assault of the Void Claw.

At this rate, before I could subdue the soul beast, I would be bankrupt! Would I have to compensate for the hotel's damages? I was filled with a mix of anger and fear at the Void Claw's strength; its attacks were invisible to the naked eye, leaving me to rely on instinct and intuition to evade them. I could not guarantee I would always be this fortunate.

Determined, I activated the Platinum Glory to protect myself, accelerating my movements. Utilizing the Flying Flowers and Sweeping Leaves technique, I evaded several of the soul beast's attacks. Occasionally, I felt an invisible claw graze me, a sharp pain coursing through my body, but such a cost brought me closer to the Void Claw. I gathered my strength and struck down with force, resolved to keep my hand extended even at the risk of injury.

It was either subdue this soul beast or be torn to shreds! I would rather risk permanent damage than be ripped apart by the Void Claw. Just as I launched my attack, I distinctly felt the swirling energy within my dantian release three times more chi than usual, allowing my palm to strike the Contract Card against the Void Claw's body just before it could unleash its own attack.

What a close call! Upon striking, both the magical circle and the Void Claw vanished, along with the traces of destruction in the room. This small change allowed me to exhale deeply; it seemed I no longer had to worry about compensation. I raised my hand to check, and the Contract Card that had been on my palm had also disappeared. Flexing my fingers, I felt no discomfort. I waved my hand, and five chilling gusts of air burst forth from my fingertips, slicing into the wall opposite me.

Juliere, who had been watching me with wide, startled eyes, barely dodged the five gusts, leaping into the safety of the bed and shouting, "Wang Lin! You scoundrel! Are you trying to murder me? Let me remind you that the Demon Island does not allow for a second demon assistant!"

I dismissed Juliere's words but couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt over the state of the room I had inadvertently damaged. The destruction caused by the magical circle's spatial anomaly had vanished, but now I faced an irreparable incident. It was all my careless doing.

Damn it! I should have tested this outside the room! After scolding me, Juliere rushed over and pinched my cheek hard, causing me to yelp in pain. I shot her an angry glare, saying, "What was that for? You nearly got me killed!"

"You're over ten thousand years old; how could you be so easily killed? Demonesses typically have poor combat abilities, so it's not uncommon to find themselves in such peril!" Her words reminded me of the demoness who had been slain by the Wolf King and the Eight Wells True Symbols. I felt a wave of sympathy and promptly apologized to her.

However, Juliere's remarks always felt somewhat untrue. I pushed those questions aside, perhaps I would gradually uncover the truth in time! Having mastered the power of the Void Claw, my interest in the remaining three soul beasts grew considerably. Yet, although the battle was brief, it left me feeling rather exhausted, and I decided not to attempt another capture. After all, my mind had been stretched too thin these days, and a rare opportunity to relax warranted a brief rest.

I ordered five takeout meals along with two large bottles of Pepsi. By the time the voluptuous figure of the demoness arrived with my order, I was ravenous. Hastily grabbing the food, I shared a portion with Juliere and began to devour my meal. After finishing one serving, I guzzled down half a bottle of soda, finally feeling some relief in my stomach and a significant lift in my mood.

Just as I was gearing up to tackle another serving, a voice crackled through the communication card. "Wang Lin, we've had our rest. Haven't you had your fill with Lilith yet? We need to discuss our next plan. Are you coming?"

"Tch! You're working hard, Wolf King. I'm on my way. Is Eight Wells True Symbols and Jack with you?"

"Oh! No, they're busy with their own matters. I believe everyone still has mental barriers when it comes to pairing up," the Wolf King replied with a chuckle.
