Half a month passed in a flash.
"Sister, this battle between these two is getting dull," the green-haired girl said with a sly smile, glancing at Chodori. "Why not let Chodori have a go? At least she could have a chance for revenge."
The pink-haired girl looked at Chodori hesitantly. Indeed, the battle had been intriguing at first. It had been ages since they witnessed such raw combat skills in this time and space. But after half a month, the straightforward brawl between Reiki and Dark Night began to lose its appeal.
"Chodori, do you want to go?" the pink-haired girl asked.
"No way," Chodori pouted. "If he can't beat me, he resorts to underhanded tactics. I don't want to fight him."
"Alright, let's leave it for now. But Chodori, if you want to avoid being spanked by him again, you need to train harder. This human is exceptionally talented. He might not know it yet, but he's already begun using some form of magic," the pink-haired girl said before disappearing.
The green-haired girl sighed, taking Chodori by the hand. "Let's go," she said, and they both vanished.
...
Reiki lay on the ground, utterly exhausted. He had been fighting Dark Night for three days straight. Even with recovery potions, he couldn't move.
"Boy, if you want my approval, don't stay down. Get up and fight!" Dark Night's voice boomed from above.
"No... I need to rest. Your defense is too tough to crack," Reiki said, struggling for breath. Dark Night's physical strength was formidable, a natural gift of the dragon race, especially for one who specialized in physical combat.
After half a month, Reiki had yet to break through Dark Night's defenses even once.
"You've already mastered magic, so why aren't you using it? Your regular power won't harm me," Dark Night said impatiently.
Reiki was stunned. "Immortal technique? I have?" Since inscribing his name in the Book of Contract, all he'd done was fight Dark Night. When had he ever practiced immortality?
Confused, Reiki turned his focus inward and found a special chakra flowing through his meridians. As it moved, he noticed his meridians expanding and strengthening.
"So, this is magic? Magic between time and space?" Reiki's heart raced. As he pondered, a mysterious awareness merged with his being. The energy around him became perceptible and distinct.
"This must be natural energy... After absorbing and transforming it, it becomes magical chakra," he realized, beginning to control it and channel it through his body.
Dark Night watched in astonishment. "This kid..."
In mere moments, Reiki adapted to manipulating magical chakra, actively absorbing natural energy and practicing immortality.
Dark Night, eager to continue their battle, had to wait. The next fight would be far more thrilling once Reiki mastered this power.
The sun and moon alternated, and three days passed.
"Phew..." Reiki exhaled and stood up. His body was fully recovered, and he felt significantly stronger. Most importantly, he had mastered the art of immortality.
"Can we start?" Dark Night appeared before Reiki, eyes full of anticipation.
"Yes!" Reiki raised his hand, ready to fight.
They clashed again. This time, each of Reiki's strikes resonated, giving feedback through his fists. Dark Night, who had been impervious before, now felt pain—a sensation that excited him.
No longer did it feel like fighting an unfeeling puppet.
The battle raged for five days. Reiki's newfound control allowed him to absorb natural energy during the fight, enhancing and replenishing his magical chakra. But after five days, he was defeated once more. Defeating Dark Night was still beyond him.
"Hahaha... I acknowledge you!" Dark Night declared. "Remember my name—Dark Night! Next time, make our battle even more exhilarating!" The dragon approached and offered a drop of blood that landed on Reiki's arm, solidifying their bond.
After nearly a month of relentless combat, the initial verification of the contract was complete. Reiki lay on the ground, a smile spreading across his face. He instinctively opened his status panel to check his progress.
"What?!" Reiki sat up suddenly, surprised by what he saw.
