Captain America knelt down and picked up the shield, licking the blood off it with his tongue. His eyes narrowed in satisfaction, and his body trembled with relief.
"Hank was really smart," he thought. "He had his wife cause a distraction on the ship, letting the rest of the zombies get a few bites in before they could reach the aircraft carrier. Even Janet hasn't come out yet. Well, let's take a few more bites to comfort her soul in heaven."
Suddenly, a loud roar echoed from afar, shaking the sides of the ship. Captain America turned his head toward the sound.
Charging toward him was a massive figure—a black-haired, red giant nearly three meters tall. Its body was a mountain of tense muscle, its footsteps shaking the deck as though the ground could barely withstand its weight.
"Ah?"
Captain America frowned in confusion. The zombie virus had caused others to fear him, forcing them to keep their distance. So why was this man charging straight at him?
He didn't have much time to think. His twisted mouth broke into a grin. If he could infect the Red Hulk by biting him, it would be a great triumph.
When Captain America lunged at the Red Hulk, the giant roared, his body expanding further as he shouted, "Get out!"
With a powerful push from his massive palm, the Red Hulk sent Captain America flying like a cannonball. He crashed into the wall of the cabin, leaving a massive crater.
Dust filled the air as the wall collapsed under Captain America's impact. Blood oozed from his battered body, but he didn't stay down.
Despite the heavy blow, the zombie-infected super-soldier wriggled to his feet, his broken body knitting itself back together. His hungry eyes locked onto the Red Hulk, and he grinned wickedly.
Just then, a blue cloud of smoke appeared behind Red Hulk. Out of it emerged Nightcrawler, also a zombie, who used his teleportation ability to strike instantly. His sharp tail stabbed viciously into Red Hulk's back, spraying red blood.
Red Hulk let out a roar of pain and fury.
"Damn it, get off me!" Red Hulk struggled violently, but Nightcrawler clung to his back, biting him again.
At that critical moment, a burning chain—black and red with flame—shot through the air and wrapped tightly around Nightcrawler. He screamed, trying to teleport away, but his ability seemed to fail. He could only flicker briefly in place, a faint cloud of smoke marking his futile attempts.
The chain tightened, the black and red flames crackling. Nightcrawler's body began to weaken as he struggled to breathe.
Ghost Rider stepped out of the shadows, his flaming skull glowing with the eerie black and red light of Hell. He calmly walked up to Nightcrawler, his hands extending like iron pliers around Nightcrawler's head. His grip was merciless.
With a burst of black and red fire, Ghost Rider engulfed Nightcrawler's skull. Nightcrawler's desperate scream was silenced in the roar of the flames.
As the last of his ashes scattered into the wind, Ghost Rider turned to Red Hulk.
"General Ross, you've been infected."
"Maybe," Red Hulk growled, clenching his fists, his body glowing with a dazzling red light. "But as long as I stay angry enough, I can handle it."
The growing fury within him fueled his power. The metal deck beneath his feet began to hiss, melting as Red Hulk's rage radiated outward.
Ghost Rider silently stepped back, careful to avoid the molten metal. The heat wasn't a problem for him, but the liquid metal was spreading rapidly.
"Melt them," Red Hulk grinned. "If you're sick, the best cure is a fever—especially one hot enough to reach gamma-ray levels."
His laughter boomed as he patted his back, the wounds from Nightcrawler completely healed, leaving no scars.
"Alright, Steve," he said, looking around. But Captain America, who had been watching the fight, had quietly slipped away.
"Let's get Fury's plan going. No need to drag this out. We're just here to clear the path for the real army." Ghost Rider coiled his chain and approached Red Hulk, patting him on the back.
Though Red Hulk's growing heat could burn the zombie virus out of his system, his strength was limited, and he couldn't fight this way forever. Ghost Rider, on the other hand, was immune to infection, being the Spirit of Vengeance, but even he couldn't fight endlessly.
"Let's go!"
With a sudden leap, Red Hulk launched himself into the air. The ground shook as he landed on a container a hundred meters away with the force of a meteor. The metal shell collapsed instantly, sending shards flying everywhere.
A mass of soil was violently thrown up, releasing a damp, earthy smell as it scattered in all directions. The soil churned, exposing the roots of small plants that had been buried beneath the surface.
As the earth continued to stir, the roots thickened and began to grow, twisting into the shape of limbs and a massive trunk. In a matter of moments, the root system transformed into a tall, humanoid creature.
