The little boy still had some baby fat on his cheeks and his face kind of glowed with the light. She was tempted to pat his cheeks.
"Little boy…" she trailed off.
"Am not little boy and you are just three years older than me"
-The audacity- He didn't even know that he is talking to the Princess.
He turned around to look for a book.
"What's your name" She asked.
"Zaylee" he said.
"Zay… since you were brought as my younger brother, then you will definitely have to treat me as your older sister" she told him.
The little boy paid no attention and went off to look for a book.
She followed him and looked through the old dusty shelves till she spotted the book she was looking for.
It was placed at the highest part of the shelf and there was a ladder to climb.
She rushed over to the ladder and it seemed too heavy to move.
She turned to the boy and he was flipping through a book.
"Zay" she called.
He turned to look at her. "I need your help here" she said pointing at the ladder.
"A little boy can't help you with that" he said.
"But my brother can… help me brother and I will give you a treat"
"Brother" Zay repeated. Then his eyes lighted up. "A treat"
"Yes… I will give you chocolate" she smiled. She never imagined she would use these tactics.
The boy came dashing to where she was.
"You promise"
"Of course" Jolien said and he helped her to lift the ladder. It was kind of hard but they still did it.
She climbed the ladder and got out the book and came down.
Dusting the book and the name was revealed.
"Creatures" Zay read out.
Jolien placed her finger on his lips to shut him up.
"Don't say a word about this" she told him.
He hit her hand off at once.
"Your dirty hands" he whined.
She placed the book on the floor and opened it and Zay followed.
There were so many notes about creatures in the book.
"My mum told me that am not really human" Zay said.
"You are not human then what are you… a ghost " she humoured.
"Would you believe it if I said that I am a demon"
"Demon?" She wouldn't believe it. She just watched the little boy.
Then she laughed "You are kidding right?"
But the boy didn't budge and he looked so serious.
Then he smiled "Let's check the book"
He told her and their little hands flipped through the book till they got to the page.
Demons exist and are among us.
The book read;
Jolien immediately turned to the other page but the writing had blurred as if they were fading away.
Just then there was 'bang' coming from outside the door.
The two kids jerked up.
They looked at each other in fear.
The door opened and they scurried to a corner.
"This place hasn't been cleaned for ages" a voice rang.
Jolien knew the voice too well. It was her mother's voice.
"Why did you guys bring your sister in here" she asked.
"She has to find out one way or the other" Justin said.
"She is just eleven... we promised to tell her when she is thirteen that would be better" Mrs Irene said.
"As you wish mum" George said.
They turned to leave the room.
Jolien heard them loud and clear and she didn't know what they were hiding from her.
"Someone was here... no... someone is here " Justin said.
Just then, Zay walked out of the corner.
"Zaylee" George called.
The trio looked at the little boy.
"What is this cute boy doing here" Mrs Irene asked and went over to him.
"I got lost" he said in a little voice.
"Are you with someone else" George asked.
"No" he said. "I was scared"
The woman carried him at once and they left the room.
Jolien emerged from the corner. She didn't know what they were hiding from her.
But she would find out one way or the other.
She has given him her very own name. Her very first little brother.
