No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t shake the nervous flutter in my stomach.

I changed into the hospital gown, the fabric cold against my skin, and lay down on the examination table. Eason stood beside me, his expression calm and steady, though I could see the faint lines of worry etched into his forehead.

“You’re going to be okay,” Eason said, kissing my forehead and squeezing my hand. “We’re going to be okay.”

The doctor applied the cool gel to my belly, and I flinched slightly at the contact. Eason rubbed my arm soothingly as the doctor began to move the ultrasound wand across my abdomen.

“Alright,” Doctor Dave began as the screen flickered to life. “Right there is the…” he trailed off mid sentence, his eyes widening as he stared at the screen with a frown.

The room seemed to grow colder, the air thick with tension. My pulse quickened and my breath caught in my throat.

“What is it?” I asked, my voice trembling with fear.
