Chapter 78: Chapter 78: The Expectations of Long Gong and She Po

Flander watched the departing Shrek Nine, murmuring, "The children have grown up."

Zhao Wujin also gazed at the retreating figures, sighing, "Indeed, they have grown."

Flander continued, "I have a feeling that in ten years, the continent will tremble because of him. The future of the soul master world will belong to them. Seniors, you brought your granddaughter here not just because you value Shrek Academy, but there must be other reasons, right?"

Flander recalled Zhao Wujin mentioning their previous interactions. The last time, Long Gong had been reluctant to part with the Human-Faced Demon Spider until Mu Chen revealed information about Tang San's background, which led Long Gong to ultimately concede.

Shrek Academy, despite having Flander and Yu Xiaogang, was not enough to convince a renowned Soul Douluo like Long Gong to send his precious granddaughter so far. Clearly, Long Gong and She Po had ulterior motives.

Long Gong, without pretense, stroked his beard and replied, "These children possess exceptional talent and will undoubtedly reach the Title Douluo level in the future. In life, connections are important. Regardless of whether their relationships develop or not, it will be beneficial for my Yiran and my family's future."

In other words, Long Gong believed that these children would become Title Douluos, and he wanted Meng Yiran to form strong bonds with them early on.

Flander suspected as much but was surprised to realize that Long Gong seemed to be subtly encouraging a match between Meng Yiran and one of his students, hoping they would tie the knot.

Thinking of Tang San's status, Flander paused, a look of understanding on his face. "Indeed, with his background, if I had a daughter, I would definitely want her to marry him. His father is someone who dares to challenge even the Pope. Even Title Douluos wouldn't easily provoke him."

"Someone who dares to challenge the Pope? Who are you talking about?" Long Gong asked, puzzled.

"Senior, the person you just mentioned isn't Tang San?" Flander queried, confused. Among the Shrek Nine, who else would warrant such respect from Long Gong and She Po?

"Tang San?"

Long Gong raised an eyebrow. "Tang San is indeed a rare talent, and his background is quite formidable. However, his father has enmity with the Spirit Hall. If it weren't for that, I would be willing to betroth Yiran to him. Compared to Tang San, I favor that boy named Mu Chen. His talent is exceptional; he could be a prodigy not just in ten years but a thousand years later. He has a clean background and no grudges, allowing for a smooth path in his cultivation. It's a pity he refuses to join my family."

Long Gong and She Po exchanged a glance filled with regret. If Mu Chen could join their family, he would undoubtedly elevate their status. In their minds, although Tang San was talented, he still paled in comparison to Mu Chen.

Zhao Wujin chuckled and said, "Seniors, your initial intentions may fall short."

"Why?"

"Why?"

Long Gong and She Po asked with concern.

Zhao Wujin pointed at Xiao Wu's figure. "To be honest, that girl named Xiao Wu is very close to Mu Chen. If nothing unexpected happens, those two will likely become a couple in the future."

When Long Gong heard this, he laughed.

She Po looked at Long Gong and joined in the laughter.

Zhao Wujin looked puzzled. "Seniors, have I said something wrong?"

Long Gong stroked his beard with a smile. "I thought it was something serious; it turns out he already has someone he likes. Having two wives isn't a rare thing in our world, is it?"

"Ah?"

"Ah?"

Zhao Wujin, Flander, and the other teachers present looked at Long Gong in astonishment. He actually didn't mind if his precious granddaughter ended up sharing a husband with another woman!

She Po added, "Alright, old man. The younger generation will find their own fortune. Whether they can be together in the future will depend on their own luck. Just being able to associate with these little monsters is already in line with our original intention."

The Shrek Nine, who had already walked far away, were unaware of the adults' conversation. Especially Meng Yiran, who, if she knew her grandparents' expectations, would likely be so embarrassed that she'd want to find a hole to hide in.

Three months later, Mu Chen led the Shrek Eight, holding a map given to him by Flander. Since Flander was just a Soul Sage without any family background, Mu Chen suspected that this map likely came from Tang Hao.

The map was exceptionally precise, clearly indicating various villages where they could rest along the way. After three months of travel, the Shrek Nine finally traversed a desolate forest and arrived at a dark, oppressive little town.

The town was not only dim and dreary, but the air was also tinged with a faint smell of blood. Few pedestrians were seen, and those who were present looked fierce and menacing.

"According to the map, this little town is the entrance to the City of Slaughter," Mu Chen said, putting away the map as he surveyed the surroundings. Noticing Ning Rongrong's anxious expression, he asked, "Rongrong, what's wrong?"

Ning Rongrong hugged herself, replying, "It's a bit cold. This place gives me an uncomfortable feeling."

Mu Chen glanced at the other girls—Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Meng Yiran. Both Zhu Zhuqing and Meng Yiran, perhaps due to their martial souls, didn't seem to feel uncomfortable in the dark atmosphere of the town. As for Xiao Wu, being a ten-thousand-year soul beast, she had seen her share of fighting and killing, so she felt no discomfort.

Tang San, Dai Mubai, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun, being boys, were a bit bolder. They didn't show the same level of unease as Ning Rongrong, but their eyes remained vigilant as they scanned their surroundings.

"Let's go to the hotel in this town first," Mu Chen suggested calmly.

The town was small, and soon Mu Chen and the others arrived at a hotel with a closed door and a windmill in the courtyard. Inside, many guests were present; even during the day, candles were lit, creating an eerie atmosphere.

The hotel was bustling, with most tables occupied by guests drinking from cups filled with a red liquid. As they downed the liquid, expressions of satisfaction and excitement filled their faces. Stepping into this place, Mu Chen felt as if he had entered a twentieth-century opium den.
