Riley
The hospital smell is sterile and cold, and it makes my stomach churn as I navigate the hallways. Damien wanted to come with me, but I told him no. This was something I needed to do on my own.
Michael almost lost his life because of me, and the guilt has been eating at me since last night.
When I reach his room, I see Lea immediately. She's perched on the edge of the chair by his bed, clutching his hand tightly.
Her face is blotchy, her makeup streaked from crying, and when her head snaps up and she sees me, fresh tears spill down her cheeks.
"Riley!" she cries, standing so quickly the chair scrapes against the floor. She rushes toward me, throwing her arms around my neck in a suffocating hug. "Oh my God, I've been so worried. Are you okay?"
Her concern makes my heart ache. "I'm fine," I murmur, patting her back gently. "It's Michael I'm worried about."
