Emma walked straight toward the ER doors with a tight jaw and balled fists.

The fluorescent lights above gave off a faint buzz as she neared, but she came to an abrupt stop when the same nurse from before stepped in her way.

The woman stood firmly, arms crossed and a no-nonsense look on her face, refusing to let her pass.

"Miss…"

The nurse spoke with the calm patience of someone who had repeated this line far too many times today.

"For the last time, you are not allowed back here."

Emma halted, glaring daggers at the woman.

Her exhaustion and anxiety boiled over into a low growl.

"Listen up… Denise…"

Emma snapped, pointing directly at the nurse's badge with all the authority of a queen addressing her subject.
