Chapter 93: Chapter 93

Outside of Zhen Ai's lab, the ordinary workspace and the wasteland extending 5 kilometers around it were fully monitored. Although her identity was secret and there were no live guards, machines verified everything. Plus, the surrounding environment was the best cover—no outsider could possibly find the underground passageway.

But how did Suki stroll in so openly? Without triggering the alarm?

The heavy doors shut one by one. Zhen Ai stared at the narrowing light, until suddenly everything was gone, leaving her with only one thought:

Would she never see Dear again?

She clutched a sliver of light in her hand, biting her lip, refusing to let go. But finally, her strength reached its limit, and she was forced to release it—only for the light to fall into a warm, slightly sweaty palm.

In an instant, the thread-like beam of light was torn open, ripping wide. A flood of white light poured in, like the gates of heaven. The next second, she was yanked out of the mire and crashed into a familiar, broad chest, where she was held tightly.

Without even time to exchange a glance, Yan Su wrapped Zhen Ai in his arms, swiftly ducking behind the lab's workbench. He didn't forget to habitually press a quick kiss to her forehead, full of reassurance.

His breath was fast, his body radiating heat—he had run here. Zhen Ai instantly felt at ease.

At the same time, a bullet shot out from the dark corridor and slammed into the wall.

Suki had brought a gun!

Zhen Ai snapped to full alert and asked Yan Su, "How did you get in here?"

His eyes were sharp, scanning their surroundings. "All the doors were open."

Zhen Ai's body turned cold in an instant. "You shouldn't have come. Someone's setting you up."

Yan Su remained unperturbed, focused intently on surveying the area. "The second part, I know. The first part, I disagree."

By now, he was certain who was behind Suki. When he heard that the five-pointed star's center was at Prince's Hill, Yan Su couldn't suppress his worry, even though he knew what the Nautilus symbolized. He feared Zhen Ai might be in danger.

As he sped over in his car, Yan Su was well aware it was a trap, with Zhen Ai as the bait.

After the initial tension and worry passed, Yan Su knew that the person watching Zhen Ai wouldn't let her die—Suki couldn't kill her. But Zhen Ai would fall into someone else's hands and vanish from his life forever.

The memory of that video, filled with sexual fantasies, still haunted his mind. He couldn't imagine what kind of suffering Zhen Ai would endure if she were taken. He couldn't explain why he cared so much, but he had to see that she was safe to feel at ease.

On the clean floor, Suki's footsteps drew closer. "Mr. S.A., I don't need to kill you. Leave her with me, and you can walk away unharmed."

Zhen Ai wanted to tell Yan Su to go, but he didn't even listen to Suki. He was too focused on scanning the area. The nearest door was 10 meters away, leading to the outer workspace.

Zhen Ai didn't say anything in the end. She knew all too well that even if Yan Su were an ordinary man, he wouldn't turn a blind eye and abandon her—especially not her.

The guy who never cherishes his own life!

She tightened her grip on his hand.

Yan Su pulled her along, crouching as they rounded the lab bench. As they moved, he still politely engaged in conversation with Suki. "Mind if I ask why you want to kill her?"

Suki circled the lab bench—no one was there. She moved forward. "She's one of the higher-ups in the club. They're demons, playing with human lives. Maple Street was the same."

"Mr. S.A., I've heard of you—you're a righteous man." She let out a cold laugh. "But men will always be men, driven mad by women, especially bad women with angelic looks and devilish hearts."

Zhen Ai remained silent, not understanding why Suki had this impression of her. The insults were getting worse. Zhen Ai didn't care about being cursed, but sitting there with Yan Su, listening to it, felt a little awkward.

"Among all those dead women, the ones who best match your little lover's profile are those who appear like maids but act like actresses. These are, unsurprisingly, men's favorites. Your little lover is the perfect blend of angel and devil—open yet without responsibility, weak but completely submissive. Even the best man couldn't resist that temptation, right?"

As Suki slowly approached, she expected Yan Su to finally lose his temper.

But crouching under the workbench, Yan Su's expression remained unchanged, his calm unwavering. He even responded, "Mr. Miller is quite a good man."

Zhen Ai covered her mouth with the back of her hand, her face blank, though she actually wanted to laugh.

Suki's face contorted. If she didn't catch the sarcasm in Yan Su's words, she might as well have been blind. It turned out all her earlier ranting had been about Miller and herself.

In battle, the most infuriating thing was when you made a loud, dramatic show, only for your opponent to casually knock your flag down with a feathered arrow.

Suki approached the corner of the bench, closing in on Yan Su's location. Suddenly, something dashed across to another table. Suki instinctively aimed and fired. Two gunshots rang out, and a glass wall cracked, shattering to the ground.

What she had aimed at were a few rolls of paper that had fallen out.

Yan Su glanced over. According to Ryan, the other side of the glass wall led to a storage room. Without pause, Yan Su dragged Zhen Ai in the opposite direction, ducking behind another workbench.

Suki advanced, realizing the workbench they were hiding behind was just 5 meters from the door. She guessed their escape route and sneered, "Since you refuse to leave, go ahead and die!"

Someone muttered, seemingly disagreeing, "Before I die, can I ask what you were feeling when you killed Miller?"

Suki's face twitched.

What feeling? A painful, guilt-ridden one! She had only wanted to torment those women, but then Miller had appeared. Miller was so kind and righteous—he could never tolerate her actions, nor could he stand by idly. She listened to the club boss's persuasion and tied him up. He didn't resist. She inflicted only mild torture on him, but in doing so, she felt an indescribable euphoria.

Thinking back now, maybe, as the boss said, she had always been a sadist.

In the end, she shot him dead. She couldn't bear to dump his body in the trash, so she carefully cleaned him, placed him in a sleeping bag. She had taken his heart because it was so pure—she wanted to keep it. But when she heard that heartless people couldn't go to heaven, she'd panicked and rushed to return it.

Yan Su saw Suki's shadow freeze, and calmly continued, "Miller had nothing to repent for. When he said he had killed a boy, he meant your baby. You were pregnant once, but because of your physical and psychological condition, he convinced you to give up the baby. He took the blame so you wouldn't feel guilt or sorrow."

Suki's fingers tightened on the gun, her nails turning white. The sensation of being slowly stripped down made her want to scream. "Who are you! How much do you know?!"

A large, dark shadow slid out from under the bench. Enraged, Suki leaped toward the door and fired her gun, only to hit a small cart.

At that moment, Yan Su and Zhen Ai dashed into the storage room through the shattered glass, disappearing from view.

They had never planned to escape through the front door!

Suki quickly chased after them. The room was brightly lit, filled with row after row of storage shelves. The air reeked of formaldehyde.

As Yan Su and Zhen Ai entered, Suki's bullets followed right after.

Fifth Shot.

Zhen Ai was held tightly by Yan Su, running through the flying debris and paper. She could run on her own, but he insisted on keeping her completely wrapped up in his embrace, as his presence offered at least some protection against the bullets flying toward her.

She knew she couldn't argue with him, so she stopped struggling and obediently cooperated.

Her mind wandered as she counted the bullets, thinking that if they managed to shoot nine times, they might be able to subdue Suki.

Suki caught up and fired another shot at the shadow passing through the light, causing a box on the shelf to fall and paper to scatter everywhere. She gritted her teeth and repeated, "Who are you?! How much do you know?!"

Yan Su's calm voice rang out, unhurried and proper as he answered Suki's question, "I am S.A.YAN. I know a lot."

Suki was almost furious enough to spit blood. Her eyes darted, and she laughed harshly, "Mr. S.A., you wouldn't be counting my bullets, would you? Waiting for me to run out before you show yourself? Let me tell you, there are nine rounds in the gun, six have been fired, and three are left. Do you think that's enough to kill you?"

"Not enough," Yan Su replied coldly, "but you have a magazine on you, and there are more bullets."

Zhen Ai was taken aback. Suki intentionally reminded Yan Su to count the bullets, hoping to lure him out after the ninth shot?

Suki's thoughts had been seen through, and her anger flared as she fired again in the direction of his voice. A bullet struck a box beside Yan Su. A pile of items rolled down, hitting who knows what, and the conveyor belt on the ground started to turn.

Suki walked to the end of the shelf and saw a large pool filled with various strange bones.

The smell was overpowering; it was formaldehyde.

Meanwhile, Yan Su picked up a hollow iron ball and moved aside with Zhen Ai.

Suki turned back, not seeing them, only hearing Yan Su's voice echoing in the narrow aisle between the shelves, making it impossible to pinpoint their exact location:

"The first time you came to find me, you said that the kindergarten teacher had been captured by the club and accidentally escaped during a rescue. You lied about this. The most reasonable explanation is that you entered the holy gold from the inside in plain clothes, and the teacher may have been rescued with your help."

Yan Su paused for a moment, "But unfortunately, you were imprisoned."

Suki froze, not speaking.

After a while, she had a stern look on her face as she switched magazines. The sound of metal clinking echoed in the quiet storage room.

Zhen Ai, pressed against Yan Su's chest, blinked in disbelief, realizing that Suki had endured such treatment? She was an undercover agent, and her experiences must have been even more tragic.

Zhen Ai suddenly remembered Laise questioning Yan Su about why someone as capable as Suki would have a motive to kill, after which Yan Su had fallen silent and said, "I can guess, but I can't say."

So it was about this matter?

Suki finished loading her gun.

After a deathly silence, she unexpectedly laughed, "Very clever. You know, my biggest dream as a child was to be a police officer, but now, my biggest regret in life is being a police officer."

She whispered with a faint smile, but it was filled with deep-seated resentment and pain. "I was always the good child in my family, attended the best university, got the best job, and never did anything wrong. I was so proud and dignified, yet I was trampled on like a tool. I underwent professional torture training, but it destroyed everything. Day after day, night after night! The torment was endless, and I couldn't even die!"

Her voice trembled, gritting her teeth,

"I gave everything to protect the women and children of this country! Yet at my most desperate and helpless moment, not a single person in this country protected me!"

"Oh, no," she laughed again, like a madwoman. "The very people who tormented me were the elites of this country. Maybe I even protected their families! Isn't that ridiculous?"

A tear shimmered briefly in Suki's eyes before vanishing.

How ridiculous it was that in that lightless place, no one came to save her. She had sworn that if anyone got her out, she would follow them forever. But it was Boss who let her go—the silent man in the black mask who never touched her and only observed from the sidelines.

She returned to an ordinary life, but everything had changed; touching, caressing, kissing, sex—everything was a shadow for her.

Her body, her mind, her faith, all suffered destruction.

Her heart turned completely cold, so cold that even Miller's years of guarding, loving, and caring for her couldn't warm it.

She might still love Miller, but she hated him for not being able to save her. Yet the man she thought about the most was another man, the one who had leaned in close to her ear countless times, his voice pleasant yet enticing: "Suki, just scream if it hurts."

In those sunless days, only that one man talked to her and watched her cry.

She wondered if she had shamefully developed Stockholm syndrome.

Zhen Ai listened to Suki's words, imagining the hell she had endured. But one thing she couldn't understand made her unable to remain silent:

"Suki, there's something I'm very curious about. You've endured inhumane treatment, but why haven't you sought revenge on the men who hurt you? Instead, you inflicted the same pain on innocent women? What's more perplexing is that you've become allies with those who hurt you back then? Because of this, while I sympathize with you, I can't understand you."

Suki was struck by her words and exploded in anger: "You have no right to teach me how to behave or to say those self-righteous things without having experienced my suffering!"

Zhen Ai might have had the right, but she had no intention of arguing with her. After all, Suki's past was unimaginable.

While Suki spoke, she didn't forget to move closer to Yan Su.

In the gaps of Suki's words, Yan Su was not idle; he found a flat wooden stick and a measuring cup on the shelf, turned the cup upside down to form a stand, and placed the hollow ball on it.

After preparing everything, he exchanged a knowing glance with Zhen Ai.

Zhen Ai understood immediately and crept beside Suki, provoking her: "Suki, I think you've developed complex feelings for the person who controls you."

Suki was furious. This time, hearing Zhen Ai's voice close by, she immediately turned and pointed the gun at her. Zhen Ai finished her words and dodged.

Meanwhile, Yan Su stood at a right angle and aimed at Suki's hand, executing a golf swing with one hand!

Suki caught a glimpse of something wrong in her peripheral vision. She didn't have time to turn around before the hollow iron ball struck her wrist with great force.

Suki cried out in pain, and the gun fell to the ground.

Zhen Ai instantly pounced to grab the gun, and as Suki knelt down to reach for the gun at her feet, the dark muzzle was already aimed at her forehead.

Zhen Ai looked at her calmly: "Hands up, don't move."

Suki glared at her fiercely but complied.

Zhen Ai lowered her head to remove the gun from under Suki's feet. Suki saw her chance and raised her hand to twist her, but Zhen Ai had anticipated her intention, quickly drawing the gun from her leg. With her other hand pressing against Suki's waist, she pulled the trigger.

With a bang, Suki's body stiffened, her face turning pale.

But there was no pain; looking down, she saw that she wasn't injured. The bullet had penetrated her jacket.

Zhen Ai was warning her, "I said don't move!"

Suki finally realized that Zhen Ai was not as weak as she had imagined. Her expression darkened, filled with hatred, as if she wanted to devour Zhen Ai.

Zhen Ai calmly disarmed Suki, removing the remaining weapons from her body, then stood up and gestured for her to rise. Suki cast a resentful glance at Yan Su standing behind Zhen Ai, but still found the strength to give him a sarcastic compliment, "Mr. S.A., nice swing."

Yan Su didn't respond.

Suki let out a bitter laugh, "Mr. S.A., I saw your little girlfriend at the Holy Gold Club. She's not as innocent as you think."

Yan Su looked at her with an indifferent expression and replied, "Don't worry. I know her better than you do." Zhen Ai, on the other hand, remained emotionless, without any visible reaction.

Suki was taken aback by their mutual trust, her expression complex—there was more than just hatred in her eyes.

Yan Su refused to touch Suki, and Zhen Ai had no desire for physical contact with her either. So, Suki obediently turned around and walked ahead under Zhen Ai's gunpoint. A few steps later, without turning her head, Suki reached behind her.

There was a concealed gun in her sleeve.

Yan Su, ever vigilant, reacted instantly, pulling Zhen Ai into a nearby corridor. Zhen Ai, startled, reflexively fired at Suki, sending two bullets crashing into the objects on the nearby shelves.

The concealed gun only had one bullet, but Suki seized the opportunity and immediately took off running.

Unfortunately for her, she didn't watch her step. She accidentally landed on a high-speed moving metal conveyor belt, and her foot got caught in the chains, pulling her down as the belt swiftly dragged her away.

At the end of the conveyor belt was a pool of high-concentration formaldehyde.

Yan Su quickly found the power switch for the conveyor, but it was loose and refused to turn off.

Meanwhile, Zhen Ai rushed after Suki and, seeing the situation, instinctively grabbed Suki's hand to pull her back. However, the conveyor seemed to sense the tension and suddenly accelerated, dragging both Suki and Zhen Ai closer to the edge of the pool.
