To be honest, Wallace's offer of 3 million PokéDollars was very tempting for Sato, who had lived in poverty for two lifetimes. But in the end, he held back and instead listened for a more favorable deal.
For Sato, the Sun Stone was extremely valuable at this point. Even if he had the money, getting his hands on one would be no easy task without the right connections, and its price would be far from the normal market value.
Wallace, however, was different. Given his background, it would be relatively easy for him to access a Sun Stone, and he certainly had the wealth to afford it.
Considering Wallace's age, it was clear he was no longer a rookie Trainer; he had likely traveled the world, and during those travels, he must have collected various rare items. A Sun Stone was probably one of them.
If Sato could get a Sun Stone from Wallace now, it would be an incredible stroke of luck. Not only would it solve Gloom's self-esteem issues, but it would also give his team a huge boost in strength, making Sato more confident in completing his upcoming tasks.
On the other hand, Wallace wasn't particularly surprised by Sato's request to trade for an evolution item instead of money. After all, someone who could produce high-quality PokeBlocks likely didn't need money but was short on rare Pokémon items.
Wallace could tell from Sato's clothes, demeanor, and the calluses on his hands that he was a Trainer from a humble background. Despite Sato's current means of making money, he likely still lacked the ability to gather rare Pokémon items.
Wallace was well aware of the challenges faced by Trainers from poor backgrounds, having met many during his four years of travel. Most of them had not received formal training and had to rely on learning from experience, limiting their knowledge of rare Pokémon and items.
As a result, even if such Trainers stumbled upon rare Pokémon or valuable items, they might not recognize them, missing out on opportunities. Moreover, rare items often came with conditions, and without the right connections, even money couldn't guarantee access to them. And even if they did acquire them, holding onto such items without sufficient strength was another challenge.
These factors were among the reasons why it was so difficult for Trainers from humble backgrounds to rise to the top. Wallace had seen many talented Trainers who raised Pokémon that rivaled his own with limited resources, yet only a few had gone on to compete again in the League.
Without much hesitation, Wallace pulled out a large Sun Stone from his bag and handed it to Sato with a friendly smile.
Sure, the Sun Stone was valuable, but its rarity was only significant to ordinary people. For Wallace, acquiring one was easy. A simple phone call to his family, and they would send one across any distance.
Before embarking on this trip to Kanto, his mother had carefully prepared a set of evolution stones for him, including several Sun Stones.
"You said it yourself. Here, take it," Wallace said with a smile, handing over the Sun Stone.
"Are you sure you want to use this Sun Stone as payment? Its value far exceeds 3 million PokéDollars," Sato said, swallowing nervously as he looked at the large, radiant stone in his hand. He quickly covered it with a black cloth and spoke gravely to Wallace.
The Sun Stone Wallace gave him was not only larger than usual—about two or three times the size of an ordinary one—but its color was exceptionally vibrant. Even through the black cloth, it emitted a radiant glow like sunlight, marking it as extraordinary.
Clearly, this Sun Stone was of exceptional quality. Even if it wasn't top-tier, it was at least high-grade. The ones typically sold on the market were low-grade, and even those would cost at least 3 or 4 million PokéDollars.
This Sun Stone, with its superior size and brilliant quality, was undoubtedly worth far more than any ordinary Sun Stone. Sato estimated its value to be at least in the tens of millions, if not more.
The reason evolution stones can enable a Pokémon's evolution is that they contain evolutionary energy, which promotes the Pokémon's transformation. Evolution stones vary in size and quality, meaning the evolutionary energy within them also differs in amount and purity.
Generally, if a Pokémon that requires an evolution stone absorbs enough evolutionary energy during its evolution, it will benefit greatly, and its growth potential will significantly improve.
It's important to remember that a Pokémon only evolves once in its lifetime, so the process must be handled with utmost care, especially for Pokémon that require evolution stones.
This is why many Trainers choose to use multiple evolution stones of the same type to ensure a successful evolution. When quality isn't enough, quantity is used to make up for it. However, sometimes even quantity cannot compensate for poor quality.
The higher the quality of an evolution stone, the purer the evolutionary energy it contains, making it easier for the Pokémon to absorb, and the more benefits the Pokémon will receive.
Without a doubt, this large and high-quality Sun Stone contains a significant amount of pure evolutionary energy, enough to give Gloom substantial benefits during its evolution.
"Of course," Wallace replied, nodding without hesitation. He appreciated Sato's restraint in not immediately pocketing the incredibly valuable Sun Stone and instead questioning its use. This reaction earned Wallace's respect.
In truth, Wallace hadn't inspected the stone before taking it out. These evolution stones were packed into his spatial gear by his mother, who was a perfectionist. Clearly, when preparing these items for her beloved son, she had maintained her meticulous standards.
"Thank you very much. This Sun Stone will be incredibly useful to me. Do you have a Berry Mixer with you? If so, let's move to a different location to start the process. I don't like being indebted to others," Sato said, taking a deep breath as he carefully stored the Sun Stone in his spatial gear, his expression serious as he spoke to Wallace.
For Wallace, this Sun Stone might have been just another item in his spatial gear, but for Sato, it was a lifesaver. The favor he now owed Wallace was immense.
Not wanting to take advantage of Wallace's generosity, Sato resolved to repay him by creating enough PokeBlocks to cover this significant favor.
Initially, Sato had felt a bit anxious when Wallace discovered his secret ability to make PokeBlocks during their first meeting. Honestly, the best course of action at the time would have been to leave immediately.
However, upon realizing that it was Wallace, Sato decided to stay and engage with him.
Wallace was no ordinary person. He was someone who had reached the pinnacle of both the Trainer and Coordinator paths. Sato believed Wallace wasn't the type to act without grace or tact.
Moreover, meeting the future Hoenn Champion and top Coordinator here, and having his PokeBlock-making skills recognized and appreciated, was a valuable opportunity—likely one of the most important of Sato's life.
If he could establish a good friendship or working relationship with Wallace, it wasn't hard to imagine how helpful the future Hoenn Champion and top Coordinator could be. At the very least, anyone looking to target Sato would have to think twice, considering Wallace's potential wrath.
From Wallace's current demeanor, Sato realized he had made the right bet. Someone who could casually offer an incredibly valuable Sun Stone as payment was not someone who cared about money. Wallace would be a reliable partner.
With that, Sato knew he was safe. His ability to make PokeBlocks for profit held no interest for Wallace, so there was no conflict between them. Instead, they could work together and both benefit.
