Chapter 26: Chapter 26: A Bargain with Destiny

The air in the studio was electric, crackling with anticipation as the Prix de Lausanne approached. Etienne felt both excitement and anxiety swirling within him. Dancers from around the world had come to showcase their talents, and he knew this competition could change everything.

"Etienne," Lucien called, his voice commanding attention as they prepared for another rigorous practice session. "This is your moment to shine. The Prix de Lausanne isn't just any competition; it's your opportunity to show the world what you can do."

Etienne straightened, feeling a mix of pride and pressure. "I understand, Lucien. I won't let you down," he replied, determination lacing his words. Yet, amid the thrill of impending recognition, a thought began to germinate in his mind—a longing to escape, if only for a year.

As the days turned into weeks, that desire crystallized into a plan. Finally, during a rare moment of quiet after an intense rehearsal, he found the courage to approach Lucien. "Lucien," he started, hesitating for a moment. "If I win the Prix de Lausanne, can we make a deal?"

Lucien raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "A deal? What are you proposing?"

"I want a year abroad… in Korea. I want to live there and reconnect with my roots," Etienne said, his voice steady despite the whirlwind of emotions swirling within him.

Lucien paused, his expression contemplative. "A year in Korea? That's a significant break from your training. Why do you think you deserve such a luxury?"

"Because I believe I can win!" Etienne declared, adrenaline surging through him. "If I succeed, you must promise me that I can go. No strings attached. I want to feel free, even if just for a little while."

After a long moment of silence, Lucien finally nodded, a rare smile breaking through his usually stoic demeanor. "Very well, Etienne. If you win the Prix de Lausanne, I promise you a year in Korea. But remember this: the price of victory is steep. You must pour every ounce of effort into this competition."

"Thank you, Lucien!" Etienne exclaimed, excitement igniting a fire within him. "I won't let you down!"
