Chapter 9: Scarlet Sky [ I ]

Nyx stood tall, gripping the newly generated Brunsteel sword in his hand. The blade shimmered faintly in the dim light of the rooftop, its simplicity betraying the power Nyx wielded through it. The two goblin minions were fast approaching, one still clutching the rod that had injured its hand, blood trailing down its fingers. The other swung its crude weapon wildly as it charged, its eyes filled with rage.

"Now," Nyx muttered, his cold smirk widening. "Let's clean up the mess."

The first goblin, the one holding his rod, reached Nyx with a frenzied swing, aiming to crush him. Nyx sidestepped the clumsy attack with ease, his gaze never leaving the goblin's wounded hand. As the goblin staggered from the missed blow, Nyx brought his sword down with surgical precision, slicing through its already injured arm at the wrist. The goblin shrieked in agony, the rod clattering to the ground as it stumbled back.

Before it could recover, Nyx moved swiftly, his blade a blur as he thrust it deep into the goblin's chest. The creature's eyes went wide with shock as blood gushed from the wound. It crumpled to the ground, lifeless, its body twitching one final time before going still.

One down.

The second goblin lunged at him with blind fury, its crude weapon raised high. Nyx's eyes flickered with disdain. These creatures were nothing compared to him. He waited for the perfect moment, his body poised like a predator stalking its prey.

Taking advantage of the opening, Nyx spun around and delivered a quick slash to the back of the goblin's leg, severing its tendons. The goblin fell to its knees with a howl of pain.

Nyx moved in front of the crippled creature, watching as it desperately tried to rise, its pitiful snarls echoing across the rooftop. With an almost bored expression, Nyx lifted the Brunsteel sword and drove it into the goblin's skull. The creature slumped forward, dead before it hit the ground.

Nyx stood over the bodies of the two fallen goblins, wiping the blood from his blade. "Predictable," he whispered to himself. His eyes slowly turned back to the true challenge—the Armored Goblin Warden, who still stood at the far end of the rooftop, watching the scene unfold.

The Warden had not moved during Nyx's brief battle with its minions. Its red eyes glowed with intensity, and its massive sword was still poised for attack. This was the real test.

"Now that the distractions are out of the way," Nyx murmured, tightening his grip on his sword. "It's just you and me."

The Warden roared in response, the sound reverberating across the rooftop. It lifted its sword high, the weight of the massive blade causing the ground beneath it to tremble. With a mighty swing, the Warden charged at Nyx, the force of its attack causing the air to vibrate.

Nyx's eyes gleamed with cold calculation. He had already seen the Warden's weak spot—the faint red hue around its neck, visible thanks to his "Weakness Sensing" skill. All he had to do was find the right moment to strike.

The Warden's massive sword came crashing down, but Nyx was ready. He dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack as the blade embedded itself into the rooftop with a deafening crash. The ground cracked beneath the force of the blow, but Nyx remained unfazed.

With the Warden's sword momentarily stuck, Nyx seized the opportunity. He darted behind the hulking creature, his eyes locked onto the weak point at the back of its neck. This was his chance.

He leaped forward, aiming his sword at the vulnerable spot. But just as he was about to strike, the Warden twisted its body with surprising speed, swinging its armored arm toward Nyx in a sweeping motion. The blow sent Nyx flying backward, his body skidding across the rooftop.

Nyx grimaced as he regained his footing, his chest heaving. The Warden was slower than him, but its sheer strength was undeniable. One wrong move, and that massive sword would be the end of him.

"This is going to be more interesting than I thought," Nyx muttered, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth.

The Warden had already freed its sword and was charging again, its red eyes burning with fury. Nyx knew he couldn't afford to make another mistake. He had to be faster, smarter. Every attack left an opening, no matter how small. He just needed to time it perfectly.

The Warden swung its sword in a wide arc, aiming to cleave Nyx in two. Nyx ducked under the blade, feeling the wind from the swing brush against his hair. He rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding a follow-up strike as the Warden's blade shattered the ground where he had just been standing.

Nyx sprang to his feet, his mind racing. The Warden's attacks were powerful, but the creature was slow and predictable. He just had to wait for the right moment.
