Chapter 24: Fractured Loyalty
Rachel's gun remained trained on me, her eyes cold and detached. Maya and Nova froze, their faces etched with shock.
"Ethan, I'm sorry," Rachel said, her voice devoid of emotion. "You're too close to the truth."
Nova took a cautious step forward. "Rachel, stop. You're not thinking."
Rachel's gaze flicked to Nova. "You never understood, Nova. The Agency's goals are more important than our petty morals."
Maya's eyes narrowed. "You're not the Rachel we knew."
Rachel's smile twisted. "I'm the Rachel I was always meant to be."
Suddenly, Nova lunged, disarming Rachel. The gun clattered to the floor.
"Ethan, get out of here!" Nova yelled, shielding me.
As we fled, I glanced back. Rachel stood, her eyes locked onto mine, filled with a chilling determination.
"We're not done, Ethan," she called out.
