Coraline's grip on Belladonna's glove tightened, her tears welling up. "Don't let your need consume your freedom," she whispered urgently. "You know nothing, do you?"

Belladonna shook her head slowly, Coraline's emotions genuine and heartfelt.

"Please, you must believe me!" Coraline implored, her eyes locked on Belladonna's. Despite her focus, she remained aware of their surroundings. "Follow me. Let's go to an old balcony; it's quieter there."

Belladonna hesitated...

"Trust me."

Then nodded.

Coraline led her through a hidden path, avoiding the main stairs. They passed through the guests, drawing low suspicious glances.
